Job description

In this project, you will develop and apply cutting-edge microscopy techniques to measure pigment behavior under realistic production and application conditions. By characterizing interactions at the nano- and microscale, you will develop predictive models and novel measurement methods that improve coating performance for corrosion protection, heat reflection and radiation shielding.

You will collaborate closely with our industrial partners to translate your findings into more efficient production processes and better quality control. Your work will directly promote sustainability through reduction of material waste in production and pigment innovations that could boost energy efficiency and durability.

Within our supportive, multidisciplinary research group, you will benefit from tailored training, regular seminars and an open, and friendly atmosphere. You will present at international conferences, co-author publications and build a professional network that bridges academia and industry.

Requirements

  • You are an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher.
  • You have, or will shortly, acquire a master's degree in the field of Physics, Materials Science or related.
  • You have a creative mindset and excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • You excel in both written and verbal communication.
  • You have a good team spirit and like to work in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment.
  • You are proficient in English.
  • You are adaptable and open to exploring interdisciplinary research areas.

Conditions of employment

  • A full-time position for four years, with a qualifier in the first year, and the flexibility to work (partially) from home.
  • Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU).
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary ranging from € 2901,-(first year) to € 3707,- (fourth year).
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme.
  • A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
  • Free access to sports facilities on campus.
  • A family-friendly institution that offers parental leave (both paid and unpaid).
  • You will have a training programme as part of the Twente Graduate School where you and your supervisors will determine a plan for a suitable education and supervision.

Department

You will work at the Physics of Interfaces and Nanomaterials group, Department of Nano Electronic Materials. We are focused on creating a collaborative environment where team members can work together effectively. Our department emphasizes open communication, with monthly colloquia with invited speakers, allowing students to learn from experts in the field. Additionally, we hold annual meetings to discuss departmental updates and for the students to share recent advancements.
