Postdoc Position in Algebraic Geometry

Join our dynamic research group focused on (noncommutative) algebraic geometry, with connections to representation theory. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be part of a committed team with ample opportunities for collaboration and participation in seminars and workshops. This position is ideal for researchers with a strong interest in derived categories, deformation theory, and noncommutative algebra.

Your job
You will join a research group in algebraic geometry, working on a project focusing on noncommutative algebraic geometry. This project aims to find novel constructions of noncommutative surfaces, understand their properties, and try to generalize these constructions to higher dimensions. You will be embedded in the research group of Pieter Belmans, and more broadly, in the Utrecht Geometry Centre, a vibrant research hub with many activities like seminars, working groups, and conferences. The wider algebraic geometry landscape in the Netherlands is also highly active.

You will also have the opportunity to further develop your own research agenda in the context of the research in algebraic geometry (and beyond) taking place at the Utrecht Geometry Centre.

You are an independent researcher with a collaborative mindset and bring the following qualifications:

• a PhD degree in mathematics, with a focus on algebraic geometry;
• experience with at least some of the following: Fourier—Mukai transforms, Hochschild cohomology, algebraic stacks, semiorthogonal decompositions, moduli spaces of sheaves;
• a strong interest in discovering new structures in (noncommutative) algebraic geometry;
• a good command of English, both spoken and written.

Additional experience that would be considered a plus:

• some experience in programming and the use of computer algebra in algebraic geometry;
• experience with noncommutative algebraic geometry in the sense of Artin—Zhang.

• A postdoc position for one year, with the option to extend for an additional year following a positive assessment;
• a working week of 38 hours and a gross monthly salary, depending on experience, between €3,378 and €5,331 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
• 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
• a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

The Mathematical Institute is part of the department of Mathematics. We organise and teach the Bachelor's curricula in Mathematics as well as the (English-taught) Master's programme in Mathematics and some service teaching in mathematics.
