Job description

You are part of a team of five students who are responsible for the organisation of a great week. You come up with new program components, find out which artists and locations you can book within a given budget and work out the program and script down to the last detail.

Your duties
  • come up with a fun programme
  • contact student associations, museums, theatres, artists and more about capacity and costs
  • make a concrete plan per event
  • explain/supervise components during the introduction week, control access, build up and tear down
  • as a student assitant you must be present during the VU Bachelor Introduction Days: these will take place from Wednesday 19 August to Tuesday 25 August 2026
  • depending on your role, you are responsible for:
    the city day - a day full of museums, workshops, tours and whatever else to introduce participants to the city of Amsterdam;
    the evening program – one cultural evening (with shows such as theatre, magic and drag), one music evening (such as in Vondelpark theater) and the final party (in Melkweg and Paradiso);
    the campus days - the arrival day on the VU campus and help with a morning program on Monday morning
    the sports day – a day full of sports and activities at Uilenstede.
    Acquisition – as the one responsible for acquisition, contact sponsors and advertisers to budget for the introductory program! Within this role, you have a lot of contact with organisations that want to be part of the introduction by advertising in the intro app or by being present at the information market. The information market is the only program component that is organised by acquisition, but it is a very important one.

  • you are a VU student
  • experience in organising activities or events is not a requirement, but is very welcome
  • good command of the English language
  • socially skilled and creative
  • you know the VU and Amsterdam well
  • courage, initiative and perseverance: you are not afraid to take the first step, break new ground and persevere, even when the challenges are great

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 9 months.

  • a salary € 2.897,00 (Scale 1) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile Administrative Assistant 4. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • a position for at least 0.1 FTE. Approximately 6 hours a week and full-time in August. Your employment contract will last 8 months.

We also offer you attractive fringe benefits and regulations:
  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • the possibility to work partly from home
  • discount on (and occasionally exclusive access to) theater performances and courses at the Griffioen Cultural Center

About team VU Bachelor Introduction days
As a student assistant you are part of the VU Bachelor Introduction Days team. The team also consists of a coordinator, a student affairs officer and a logistics coordinator. Together they are responsible for setting up the introduction through, among other things, ticket sales, app, communication, mentor recruitment, organising group division, collaboration with study associations and faculties and safety during the event. The content of the introduction programme is devised and organised by the student team.

We assist in logistics and help with realising educational programmes; we also aim to create a worry-free and unforgettable university experience for our students.
