The energy transition under the nanoscope: Gravitation funding for ANION project

  • #chemistry
  • #physics

Bringing together chemists and physicists to thoroughly investigate how electrochemical processes work on the smallest scale. That is the goal of the new Advanced Nano-electrochemistry Institute of the Netherlands, or ANION for short. The consortium receives a Gravitation funding of 23.6 million euros for this purpose. Professor Petra de Jongh from Utrecht University is one of the co-applicants.

There are still a lot of unsolved mysteries in electrochemistry. The ANION scientists will investigate the processes that are important for batteries, electrolysers, and fuel cells.

Collaboration 4TU and UG on technological design programs

Joining forces for better education! Proud to announce that 4TU.SAI - EngD programs (4TU.SAI), the 4TU School for Technological Design, will be expanded to include the Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programs of the University of Groningen

The University of Groningen (UG) will start two Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programs 'Autonomous Systems' and 'Sustainable Process Design' with effect from 1 September 2024. This will bring the number of EngD programs and tracks within 4TU.SAI to a total of 20. These two-year, full-time, post-Master's programs lead to technological designers, obtaining the academic degree EngD.

4TU is pleased with this collaboration because, besides the programs being extended in terms of content, it also results in better use of each other's expertise and network.

What do we want (or not want) from publishers? Looking beyond the current Dutch contract with Elsevier

UNL, NFU and NWO are delighted to announce a one-day conference entitled “What do we want (or not want) from publishers? Looking beyond the current Dutch contract with Elsevier” that will take place on Thursday, April 18 2024 in the Domstad Conference Centre, in Utrecht.

The context of the conference is the current Dutch contract with Elsevier, but the theme will be broader. The event will explore the successes and challenges of ‘read and publish’ deals; cooperation with publishers in the field of research information; and how concepts such as ‘digital sovereignty’ play out in relationships with commercial publishers. It is conceived as an open forum to discuss what the academic sector wants from the publishing sector in safeguarding academic values in a just, equitable and open scholarly communication landscape.
