What you'll do: the GGP and NIDI

The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) is a multinational research infrastructure devoted to the study of population and family dynamics. We are looking for a new student assistant whose main responsibility will be to support the partnerships and infrastructure policy officer with several key tasks including 1) efforts to acquire national funding for the GGP and 2) the demonstration of the use and impact of GGP data to various academic and non-academic stakeholders. This position is particularly well suited for students with an interest in careers in research, policy, project management and communications.
The aim of the GGP is to provide high quality and cross-nationally comparable longitudinal data to answer pressing scientific and societal challenges on population and family dynamics. It is based on the collection, documentation, and dissemination of data from large-scale nationally representative surveys from Europe and beyond. It provides data on the transitions to adulthood, family dynamics, fertility decisions, work-life balance, well-being, and intergenerational exchanges. The GGP data have a high scientific impact and provide support for empirically-informed policies on families and population. As a research infrastructure, the GGP also supports multidisciplinary collaboration in the field of population studies, data innovation and survey methodology.
The GGP central hub is located at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI). The institute is part of The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and is associated with the University of Groningen.

What we ask

We are looking for candidates who:

1. are enrolled in a master's programme in sociology, demography, political science, communications or other relevant discipline in an university in the Netherlands
2. are native Dutch speaker with an excellent command of English
3. can work independently and in a team
4. are good in planning and organizing tasks
5. are flexible and stay calm under moments of pressure

We expect you to have excellent communication skills, as you will be in contact with different stakeholders, while working closely in a national team and with international teams. You should be able to handle rapidly changing priorities and be amicable and flexible in the team. Most of all, you should be open to learning about the inner workings of a multinational data infrastructure.

What we offer

This student assistantship is subject to the the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). You will be paid according to increment 4 of the student assistant scale. As of July, 2022, for 0.2 FTW (8 hours per week), you are expected to obtain around € 550 a month gross. On top of your salary you'll receive an compensation for the use of Internet of € 25,-. A month, 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% year-end bonus according to CAO-NU.
The appointment will be for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of an extension for a further 6 months depending on budget availability and on the your performance. We expect you to start on the 1st of October.

The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute, Lange Houtstraat 19, The Hague. Our office is within a 10 minutes walk from The Hague Central Station.
