Job description

Key responsibilities
  • Creating a cross-linguistic database with detailed information on quantity expressions in a typologically representative sample of languages
  • Testing and refining hypotheses that connect cross-linguistic generalizations to existing knowledge of mental quantity representations
  • Presenting research results at international conferences and workshops
  • Publishing research results and write a PhD-thesis
  • Participating in the research group of the project (including outreach activities)

Requirements

Selection criteria
  • Completed (Res)MA degree in linguistics
  • Demonstrable affinity with data driven, cross-linguistic research
  • Experience with data collection
  • Affinity with semantics and theoretical linguistics
  • Good command of English
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with database design and programming skills

Conditions of employment

Terms and conditions

Appointment will be according to the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten). The employment will be for a period of four years (first a contract of 18 months with an extension of 30 months after positive evaluation of capabilities and compatibility), starting 1st February 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment must lead to the completion of a PhD thesis.

Salary range from €[[salarisMin]].- to €[[salarisMax]].- gross per month (pay scale [[ufoSchaal]]), in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
