Job description

Do you want to be part of a dynamic team in the challenging world of academic information services? The WUR Library is seeking three talented scientific information specialists who are just as passionate as our researchers, lecturers and students when it comes to gathering knowledge and passing it on. As an Scientific Information Specialist we will offer you the opportunity to make a vital contribution to the rapidly changing world of academic information services. You will play a supporting role in promoting knowledge sharing in an open and transparent academic setting. This is a position of social importance in a stimulating working environment!

With 65 dedicated employees spread over four specialist departments, the WUR Library offers innovative support for researchers, lecturers and students. You will help us to optimise the use of our collections, systems and support services from the perspective of our users. Convenience, advanced infrastructure, good information and assistance are a pivotal part of this. We are seeking 3 academic information specialists for the Collections, Research Support and Education Support departments.

The position
As an Scientific Information Specialist, you will be right at the heart of developments relating to Open Science & Education, research impact, educational innovation and information skills, and the creation of (digital) collections. As an information specialist, you will be very versatile, but you will be given plenty of scope to develop and specialise in this field.
The general range of duties of information specialists is as follows:
  • Giving instructions, workshops, courses and advice to researchers, lecturers, students, policymakers and managers;
  • Compiling and managing an up-to-date collection for WUR;
  • Performing and supporting literature studies;
  • Contributing to or leading innovative projects;
  • Establishing and maintaining contact with parties inside and outside WUR.

Depending on your ambitions and wishes, your knowledge and experience, and your specific talents, we will look at where you can realise your full potential , whether that is with Collections, Research Support or Education Support. Where do the differences lie?

Collections
  • Helping to maintain the quality of the mainly digital collection and to keep it up to date;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the use of the collection and cost control/budgeting;
  • Providing an excellent user experience by means of optimal access to the collection through various digital channels.

Research Support
  • Helping researchers and managers to evaluate the research impact with research information and a range of tools, such as SciVal, Altmetric Explorer and VOSviewer;
  • Informing and communicating through various channels in the field of Research Information & Intelligence;
  • Participating in innovative projects in the field of academic publication, registration and analysis of research information and Open Science, in line with the needs of WUR employees.

Education Support
  • Providing and developing education and courses in information skills for BSc, MSc and PhD students;
  • Supporting and informing WUR lecturers and students;
  • Supporting, for example, the WUR Open Education programme and the implementation of the Easy Access scheme, whether or not in the form of projects.

Requirements

We are keen to know who you are and what makes you special. Are you curious about working in academic information services? Are you a team player? If so, fantastic, especially if you also have the following:
  • Higher professional (Bsc) qualifications;
  • Relevant work experience in one or more of our work areas: collections, education support or research support;
  • Good command of spoken and written Dutch and English. If you do not have this level of English yet, we will obviously help you;
  • Substantive knowledge of one of the academic domains in which WUR is active would be a plus to help us best serve the needs of our users.

To be able to perform this role of Scientific Information Specialist well, you must be naturally inquisitive about the needs of our customer groups, with a flexible attitude and a willingness to know all there is to know about being an Information Specialist.

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:
  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • the option to accrue additional compensation / holiday hours by working more, up to 40 hours per week;

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 3.413 and € 5.439 for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10 to 11). Additionally, a contract for 0,8 FTE can be discussed. We offer you a one-year contract with the intention to convert it into a permanent contract.
