The department of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology is internationally recognized for its research and outstanding track record in education. The Department is responsible for two Research Master Programs (Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience: Neuropsychology and Drug Development and NeuroHealth) and a 1-year Master Program (Neuropsychology). Maastricht University is well-known for its Problem-Based Learning approach, which includes small group discussions.

The focus of the candidate should be in theoretical modeling and development of tools using different neuroimaging techniques (f/sMRI, EEG, TMS, MRS) to study neurotypical and disordered brain functioning. The candidate should have published (as a first author) in peer-reviewed high-quality journals on topics applicable to these research lines. The candidate should have post-doctoral experience and preferably be successful in acquiring research grants.

Tasks

• Teaching and coordinating courses at the Bachelor and Master level in Psychology and Neuroscience. Topics include general academic skills, neuroscience, modeling and the use of neuroimaging techniques;
• Development of own research line while actively engaging in collaborative research efforts within the department;
• Communicating research findings in high-quality scientific journals and at international conferences;
• Contributing to the acquisition of substantial external research funding that strengthens the department’s research programs;
• Supervising individual student research projects at the Bachelor and Master level, and co-supervising PhD students.

If, after the 12th/18th month period, the internal/external candidate is allocated a permanent position, the candidate may be eligible for government-funded starters grants, which can, for example, fund a PhD position or new research project.

• PhD degree in a relevant subject area, with a specialization in the field of cognitive neuroscience, or related discipline.
• Post-doc experience following PhD graduation.
• Demonstrable teaching qualities (in possession of Basic Qualification Teaching [BKO, as in the Netherlands] or a similar qualification is a plus, but not required), and teaching and supervision experience at the level of Master and PhD.
• A research profile and interest applicable to the main research lines of the Department.
• High-quality publications in topics such as neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience methods and applications.
• Demonstrable effectiveness in acquiring research grants.
• Demonstrable collegiality and communication skills.
• Experience in developing theoretical models to study brain structure and function, and the application of such models in brain pathologies.
• Preferred experience in functional and anatomical brain connectivity topics, including data preprocessing and modeling of neuroimaging techniques such as f/sMRI, EEG, or MRS.
• Programming skills in MATLAB, R, C++, python, bash scripting using different platforms (Windows, UNIX).
• Project and group management experience is a plus.

As a Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, you will be employed by the most international university of the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

• Good employment conditions. The position is in grated in scale 11-12 according to the UFO profile Assistant professor 2-1, with corresponding salary ranging from € 4.332 to € 6.737 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus are applicable.
• An employment contract for a period of 12 or 18 months (depending on your employment history) with a scope of 1.0 FTE. If proven suitable, the employment contract will be converted into an indefinite contract.
• As Family-friendly University, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience
The Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience is a highly international and interdisciplinary faculty,  united by a collective curiosity about the human brain. Research at the faculty explores the broad field of psychology from a biological and cognitive perspective. To this end, the faculty houses a wide range of expertise and methodologies, including the Maastricht Brain Imaging Center, which offers research facilities including high (3-Tesla) and ultra-high (7 and 9.4 Tesla) magnetic field MR scanners, 4 EEG labs, mobile EEG, TMS, and virtual reality labs.
