Lecturer in Philosophy of Law

We seek to fill a visiting lecturer position in Philosophy of Law effectively August 2019 for a period of 6 or 12 months (1 or 2 semesters), as replacement for a staff member who will stay abroad for a research fellowship.

As lecturer, you will be part of the department Philosophy of Law, Faculty of Law and contribute to the newly established Philosophy, Politics, and Society Bachelor program of the Faculty of Philosophy, and Master program of the Faculty of Law. Ideally, you have expertise in the field of global justice, philosophy of international law, and/or just war theory, and you are available for 12 months. However, we would also like to expressly invite candidates to apply when they are interested in an appointment for one semester, or in teaching only one or several specific courses.

• preferably a Philosophy and Law graduate with a proven knowledge of philosophy of law issues;
• must hold a doctoral degree or are about to obtain one;
• experience in teaching academic courses at various levels; preferably a University Teaching Qualification (BKO), and excellent teaching skills. Positive teaching evaluations are an advantage;
• good written and oral communication skills in both Dutch and English.

• employment: 0.4 - 1.0 FTE
• a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,274 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 10)
• the salary depends on relevant work experience. Maximum salary classification requires 12 years of relevant work experience
• in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus
• this is a full-time position; depending on the response to the vacancy, this role might be split into two part-time appointments
• duration of the contract: 6 or 12 months

Faculty of Law
The Department of Philosophy of Law is part of the Faculty of Law at Radboud University. The faculty's core tasks are education and research. The academic education provided by the Faculty of Law focuses on training all-round lawyers and on postgraduate courses for lawyers. One of the characteristics of ground-breaking academic research is that it often takes place in collaboration with the legal profession.
In education and research, the Department of Philosophy of Law deals with moral and other foundations of law and the legal-philosophical questions that are being addressed in this context. When is a law just? What is justice? And what different views on justice can be distinguished?
The Department of Philosophy of Law participates in the Faculty of Law’s State & Law (SteR) research centre. The aim of the centre is to provide a stimulating environment for national and international innovative high-quality research and to disseminate research results through authoritative publications, lectures, conferences and symposia.
The department currently has 6 staff members.
