Job description

The InDeep research project is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and TKI Dinalog. The project aims at establishing a strong connection between research in the field of transport and logistics, and the domain itself. From earlier projects, we see that researchers, together with practitioners, have developed extensive knowledge on innovative solutions to challenges that the transportation domain has to face, such as multimodal transportation, the role of block-chain technology, and collaboration of competing stakeholders. Together with the Erasmus University Rotterdam, InDeep collects best practices from former projects and develops a reference framework based on case studies and literature reviews. InDeep will spotlight succesful tools that foster the implementation of academic knowledge in the field, and will provide a toolbox for practicioners. The contribution of the TU Delft in this project is to provide insights from the field of simulation gaming research to develop the toolbox, and to add useful and useable games to it. The research will be carried out on the edge of two integrated disciplines - the study of the socio-technical system of transportation in combination with the field of simulation gaming as policy analysis and design instrument for practitioners.

Delft University of Technology

Delft University of Technology (the TU Delft) is a multifaceted institution offering education and carrying out research in the technical sciences at an internationally recognised level. Education, research and design are strongly oriented towards applicability. The TU Delft develops technologies for future generations, focusing on sustainability, safety and economic vitality. Department

Technology, Policy & Management

The position is in the Department of Multi-Actor Systems (MAS), which studies governance in and of large-scale technical systems. The section Policy Analysis aims at supporting strategic decision-making. Decision-makers in fields such as transport and spatial planning face complex challenges. Decisions they make today have long-term consequences. The uncertainty inherent in these large-scale systems makes it very difficult to have an overview of the consequences of decisions. Instruments used to get a picture of the decision processes are simulation gaming and modelling.
