Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, part of Wageningen University & Research, is a challenging and market-oriented environment where motivated scientific professionals conduct research for companies, government organisations and knowledge institutes. The Food Technology group develops knowledge and technology for the food industry and renders them applicable in practice. Examples include our research on products with less sugar and fat, plant-based meat replacers and innovative food processing methods like 3D printing. The scientific focus in our group is understanding the relation between ingredient chemical-physical properties, their interactions during processing and their contribution to food structure and texture.

In order to complete our department, we are currently looking for a Product Application Expert in the field of baking. In this position you will contribute to the further scientific development of this research area by:
  • Contributing to various research and development projects focused on bakery, confectionery and savoury snack applications, especially by applying your industry insights and application expertise;
  • defining and executing product application experiments together with the technical assistants and scientists, as well as analysing, interpreting and reporting the findings internally and to our customers;
  • setting up and apply physical-chemical methods for product characterization;
  • active collaboration within project teams in collaboration with scientists including biochemists, food technologists, food physicists, nutrition and consumer scientists;
  • daily management of the equipment and activities in our bakery application lab.

Requirements

  • A BSc degree in Food Technology or a related area;
  • strong technical skills in combination with in-depth knowledge of the food industry; preferably you have practical experience in the baking and confectionery industry with knowledge of and experience with the use of various functional ingredients;
  • a good understanding of bakery, confectionery and savoury snack products technology across diverse applications (bread, tortilla, cake, biscuits, pastry, battered and coated snacks);
  • good communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels: you will connect to scientists working in multidisciplinary research projects as well as to customers and bakers and you are happy to discuss results with customers and train staff members;
  • the ability to provide support in the technical/application aspects within the context of translating fundamental knowledge into product applications;
  • a strong drive for results, an open mind and eagerness to learn and share your knowledge.
You are an enthusiastic and inspiring team player, full of creative and innovative ideas, and able to develop and carry out concrete project plans together with your colleagues and industrial partners. Your technical knowledge combined with your passion in supporting the implementation of fundamental scientific knowledge into industrial applications will set you apart from the other candidates.

Conditions of employment

A challenging position with, depending on your experience, a competitive salary from a minimum of € 2791,-. to a maximum of € 4438,-. for a full working week of 36 hours in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement Wageningen Research (scale 9/10).

We offer a temporary position with an average working time of 36 hours per week, for the period of 1 year, with the possibility of a permanent employment after a successful evaluation. Besides a salary at market rates, we offer you favourable study and leave arrangements.

In addition, we offer:

  • a structural end-of-year bonus of 3%;
