Next Generation Facades – people, technology and environment

Job description

The Assistant Professor will work in the field of Façade Design and Engineering within the Architectural Façade and Product Research Group. AF&P is hosted by the chairs Design of Construction (Prof. Dr. Ulrich Knaack) and Building Product Innovation (Prof. Dr. Tillmann Klein). The group has currently 12 PhD researchers and conducts numerous national and international research projects on multifunctional façade construction, refurbishment, additive manufacturing and product service systems. During the past decades facade construction has undergone extensive development - not only because of the architectural development in general which is always expressed in the facade appearance, but also because of a clear trend for more sustainable solutions in terms of energy saving, collecting and decentralized energy storage, with more respect to user friendliness, climatic performance and circularity. Construction and manufacturing methods are getting increasingly sophisticated; resulting in system based design methods and products. For this reason, the former Façade Research Group, founded 2005, extends its scope with an additional focus on building product development.

As Assistant Professor you will be involved in the PhD-programme of the group, and have a role in the daily supervision and guidance of the PhDs. You will organize activities and events, and you will be the central person in the editorial of our Journal of Façade Design and Engineering. You will participate in the MSc and BSc education of the department.

Next to this you are expected to develop future research activities and submit grant applications, participate and / or lead research projects, support the publication activities and development for a next field of research related to facades / building envelopes - depending on your profile and interest - like Additive Manufacturing for façade construction, Green Facades, Façade Acoustic or the application of Wood in Façade Construction.          .
