Job description

Are you the person who knows how to support (international) students throughout their full 3 year-Bachelor studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences at our University College and beyond? Who understands how important it is that students feel welcome, be part of the EUC community, get excellent education, AND help with preparing for their future careers? Who really understands the Alma Mater-feeling, and will help strengthen the ties with all (ex-)EUC students? Do you have eyes and ears everywhere and do you know what’s hip and happening? EUC Student Life Officer, working in the Dean’s Office

The Dean’s Office at EUC is at the heart of Erasmus University College (EUC). The team supports all students and academic staff with timely information and organisation regarding the Bachelor’s degree programme in Liberal Arts & Sciences.

The tasks

The Student Life Officer supports students with extra-curricular activities from their start onwards, up to them becoming member of EUC’s alumni network. This means that you are involved in:

  • Being the linking pin between the Boards of the EUC Student Association (EUCSA); the Student Academic Affairs Council (SAAC), the Alumni Community of EUC Students (ACES) and the MT member responsible for the Student Life portfolio. You will also closely cooperate with EUC’s student counsellors;
  • Being the first point of contact for student activities, you will support and advice on several activities planned for and by them. The key activities concern the organization of the EUC Summer introduction programme for its new students; the Graduation Ceremony, and the BBQ. Smaller events take place throughout the year and your role will be to support these, occasionally supervising student assistants,  and keep the overview.;
  • Being responsible for EUC’s exchange students (incoming and outgoing), in close cooperation with the (outgoing) exchange officer at EUR’s central Education and Student Affairs, as well as with our OSEA team;
  • Assisting new students with their mid-August moving into and living in EUC’s Residence in Rotterdam, mandatory for all first year students;
  • Supporting and expanding our Alumni network, together with the ACES Board and the FutureCo, with a special focus on ‘Life after EUC’. You will be asked to contribute to a more coherent Alumni policy, and further develop access to career services, a.o. those provided at central level.

Ideally, you are very well aware of the kind of support our Liberal Arts and Science students need, maybe based on personal experiences. With brains and brilliance you are able to translate wishes of both students and EUC into activities that add value to EUC’s community, its vision and its reputation. You are a sensitive communicator who liaises well with all necessary stakeholders and you will pursue your goals. Your experience of being an enthusiastic and energetic planner is widely recognized, also by our MT. You simply want to make things better.

We require that you:

  • Have a heart for students and the EUC community, and are able to translate that into direct support and the organization of inspiring activities and events;
  • Have advanced communication skills: you can liaise and work with people at all levels;
  • Are completely at ease working in an international (educational) environment;
  • Love to organize things, being a highly creative yet meticulous planner and organizer, with proven track record;
  • Are of course well able to work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. More importantly, you know how to make good use of social media and you easily handle A/V equipment. You do not shy away from data systems as OSIRIS and CRM, and proficiency is strongly preferred;
  • Can work under pressure and manage multiple requests simultaneously, being a flexible person;
  • Have relevant working experience and an MBO+ (secondary vocational education) or higher degree level of thinking and working;
  • Have excellent written and oral skills for expressing yourself in English and Dutch (at least C1 level in the CEFR in both languages);
  • aAe eager to learn and to improve yourself.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

The initial appointment will be for 0.8 – 1.0 fte in temporary employment for one year, with the possibility of extension. The conditions of employment at Erasmus University Rotterdam correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (cao NU). Salary ranking is based on education and experience, and is set at cao NU scale 8 with a minimum of € 2,700 and a maximum of € 3,606 gross per month, on a fulltime basis of 38 hours per week. Within this range, your salary will depend on knowledge and experience.
