Job description

The lecturer will teach fundamental courses in structural mechanics, primarily in the BSc program Civil Engineering. For this position we are looking for an experienced candidate with profound knowledge of structural mechanics principles in the civil engineering domain. We expect an inspiring lecturer, who will develop attractive educational programs to address the current and future needs in the field.

An important responsibility is the development and teaching of one or more BSc/MSc courses and (co-) supervision of BSc/MSc students, project teams and design projects. New developments in the structural mechanics field should be continuously implemented. We also expect that the new lecturer takes a leading role in developing different forms of education (online, blended, but also digital assessment tools etc.) where appropriate.

The lecturer position focusses on education. A small portion of the position’s responsibilities is devoted to management activities such as participation in department and faculty committees.

Requirements

For this position we seek a colleague who has the dedication to pursue an educational career in academia. You hold an MSc, preferable a PhD with profound expertise in structural mechanics. You have a passion for transferring your knowledge to students and have experience in teaching large groups of students. Of course you have strong didactical skills and a strong vision on education.

We expect you to be at the forefront of pedagogical renewals and implementation of new, digital forms of knowledge transfer and assessment. You are enjoying collaboration with close colleagues within the group as well as with adjacent disciplines. Since the BSc-courses are taught in Dutch, you have both Dutch and English proficiency skills. You preferably have an academic teaching certificate (or are willing to obtain one).

You enjoy working in (multi-disciplinary) teams, including coordination of student-assistants, in a cooperative, active and social environment. You possess good organizational and communication skills. You are, through your personality, able to cooperate effectively with peers, students and stakeholders.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering & Geosciences (CEG) is committed to outstanding international research and education in the field of civil engineering, applied earth sciences, traffic and transport, water technology, and delta technology.
