Job description

Our mission is to work in collaboration within our team and with our partners to support children, families, professionals, and policy makers with the best of scientific theory and rigorous empirical research. We are looking for an academic who shares this vision to join and reinforce the team's expertise. The main focus will be on support and care for persons with a disability.

Your duties
  • Contribute to research of the section and develop own research ideas aiming at improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities
  • Collaborate with new or existing partners to achieve societal impact of our research
  • Contribute, based on your expertise, to our bachelor, masters, and research programme courses
  • Supervise bachelor and master theses

Requirements

  • You have completed a PhD in Behavioral or Social Sciences
  • You have a strong publication record
  • You have advanced methodological and statistical knowledge and skills
  • You are a team player who is able to collaborate with other researchers in acquiring external funding for research in the field of clinical child and family studies
  • You have the ambition to become an efficient and inspiring teacher
  • You have a basic qualification academic teaching (UTQ, the Dutch BKO) or are committed and able to obtain qualification within the first year
  • You have excellent written and oral skills in Dutch or are committed and able to obtain Dutch C1 level within the first year (requirement for teaching)
  • You have affinity for research in the field of persons with disabilities

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 18 months.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3.974 (scale 11)
and a maximum €6.181 (scale 12), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 18 months. Upon good performance, according to the faculty's performance indicators, the position will become permanent after 18 months.

Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences
The Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences focuses on the broad domain of behaviour and health. Our teaching and research programmes are devoted to current developments in society, from healthy aging to e-health, from juvenile crime to dealing with depression, from training for top athletes to social media as a teaching tool. About the department, institute, project The department Educational and Family Studies of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applicants for an assistant professor position in the section Clinical Child and Family Studies. The teaching and research activities of this section provide relevant insights in family functioning and interventions in the fields of youth care, education and care for people with disabilities. Research themes focus on the development of caregiver-child relationships, parenting, attachment, wellbeing and identity development in family self-settings as well as care and support settings. The basis for our diverse research lines, designs and methodology is the shared idea, grounded in several developmental theories, that social relationships and interactions are crucial for healthy development. Part of the research takes place in structural collaborations with organizations in the field of youth protection and care for people with disabilities, the so called Academic Collaborative Centers (https://vu.nl/nl/onderzoek/meer-over/academische-werkplaatsen). As an assistant professor in Clinical Child and Family studies, you will contribute to research (50%) and teaching (50%). Your research will be embedded in two interdisciplinary research institutes: Amsterdam Public Health and LEARN!.
