We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and creative postdoc who is passionate about improving road safety in low and middle income countries and excited about teaching and sharing her/his knowledge.

Job description

This postdoc position will involve two main tasks. The first (0.7fte) will be working in the European project AfroSAFE: Safe System for radical improvement of road safety in low- and middle-income African countries. The primary objective of the project is to make a significant progress in propagation of the Safe System modus operandi within the road safety work context in African countries. This is reached by exposing the local practitioners and decision makers to the state-of-the-art knowledge and practices within road safety management based on Safe System principles, as well as supporting them by sharing necessary knowledge, tools and methods for road safety improvement—adjusted to the African conditions and in tight cooperation with the local actors. Several European and African partners are participating in this project, among them for example Lund University, Volvo, and Autoliv in Sweden, Universiy of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and the University of Education, Winneba in Ghana. In this project you will be involved in all work-packages and collaborate with the different partners in the project, with the major parts being in three work-packages: road safety management and data, safe infrastructure, and capacity building. Your tasks in these work packages will include among others, conducting comparative analysis of control structure in road safety management between African and European countries involved in the project, formal and informal constraints on traffic safety management, investigation of available road safety data, reviewing national design guidelines, development of tools for infrastructure safety management, mapping the gaps in current road safety training activities, and design of suitable training activities. Writing professional reports and scientific academic papers are part of this task as well.

The second task (0.3fte) in this position will involve support in education activities in two main courses, Traffic Safety (MSc) and Road and Railway Geometric Design (BSc). This will involve teaching some lectures and provide support in projects and exam preparations and evaluations.

The duration of the postdoc position will be for three years (36 months). Preferably starting before 1 April 2023.
