Job description

Do you have experience with cloud services? Would you like to work at the interface of science and technology? The RDMS department at Utrecht University is looking for a Research Cloud Operations Engineer. Research Cloud is a virtual research environment that enables researchers to work interactively and remotely on their research projects. You will support the researchers of our university in using Research Cloud.

As a research cloud operations engineer you:
  • extend and maintain the software catalogue within the Research Cloud environment with software tools for academic research;
  • create and maintain research group accounts;
  • monitor usage of cloud resources, help out on issues;
  • maintain a close relationship with the Research Cloud provider;
  • create and maintain documentation for usage of the Research Cloud;
  • apply Open Science and FAIR principles.

Requirements

Required expertise:
  • MSc, PhD or professional bachelor degree;
  • experience with cloud computing, cloud environments and/or research infrastructures;
  • experience with software installations and implementations;
  • experience with Linux, Ansible, shell scripting and version control (Git).
Required competences are:
  • talent for technical problem solving;
  • excellent communication and collaboration skills;
  • flexible approach and manner;
  • good communication skills in English, both verbally and written.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. After positive evaluation, this can be turned into a permanent position. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €3,098 and €4,670 (scale 9-10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
