Job description

Do you have a passion for solving operations and supply chain problems in retail and distribution networks using data and quantitative techniques? Do you have experience in multi-disciplinary supply chain research that aims to integrate economic, environmental, and social performance with resilience? And are you a proactive academic with innovative and application-oriented research ideas and the ability to acquire funding for them? We are hiring a tenure track assistant professor in Sustainable Retail and Distribution Networks. Are you the colleague we are looking for?

You are an academic with research and teaching experience in a broad array of topics in the field of sustainable operations and supply chain analytics. You are experienced in a variety of quantitative decision-making techniques, preferably with a focus on sustainable distribution and retail networks in relation to social, environmental, and economic goals, as well as resilience. You have experience in writing grant proposals. You are also a networker: you set up collaborations with adjacent fields of research in business disciplines and beyond, as well as with industry, in order to create unique (multidisciplinary) partnerships.

You will be part of the Operations Research and Logistics Group, which consists of 14 academic research and lecturing staff members and 15 PhD candidates. The group is part of a section of business-oriented research groups at Wageningen University (the Business Science section).
You will take part in acquiring and executing innovative and creative (inter-)national research projects together with colleagues from the Operations Research & Logistics group as well as adjacent research groups. You will supervise PhD students, as well as BSc and MSc students, and you develop and teach courses at the BSc, MSc and PhD level. You will proactively contribute to connecting parties in and outside of Wageningen University. Depending on your seniority, you also contribute to a variety of administration activities and to the further development of the Operations Research and Logistics group.

Requirements

We hope you have:
  • completed a PhD in Operations Research, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or related fields in the Industrial Engineering / Management Sciences domain;
  • experience with a variety of methodologies in the Operations and Supply Chain domain, including empirical methods, simulation, and optimization;
  • published your work in high-quality journals
  • relevant and well-evaluated experience in teaching;
  • proven interest in grant proposal writing and acquisition,
  • a very good command of spoken and written English as well as a willingness to learn the Dutch language.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will be offered a fixed-term, 7 year contract which, upon positive evaluation based on criteria elaborated in the University's Tenure Track policy, can lead to a permanent employment contract as professor. Your salary will depend on expertise and experience and the maximum gross salary for Assistant Professors is € 5.439,- per month (scale 11). Both based on a full working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU).
