Job description

The Sustainable UM2030 programme focuses on three pillars: education, research and operations. The UM’s ambition is to hold a leading position in our education and research and to comply with accepted standards when it comes to business operations.

The sustainability team is looking for a new coordinator for sustainable education at UM. The coordinator supports the Sustainable UM2030 programme and generally helps the organization to achieve its sustainability goals. For the education pillar specifically, the coordinator seeks among other issues the integration of sustainable development into all programmes and supports the development and accessibility of education for sustainable development for students and staff.

The coordinator works with the Sustainable UM2030 (management) team, administration, faculty, staff, students and the UM’s partner universities. The coordinator can seek the support of the UM Green Office students and the faculty liaisons. The coordinator acts as a facilitator and stimulator for educational activities, and is able to develop, coordinate, and promote educational activities for sustainable development. The coordinator keeps track of educational developments, and annually reports on progress made.

Requirements

Education: the applicant is able to demonstrate interest in sustainable development, whether in formal or informal education.

Experience: Staff members who have experience working on the topic of sustainable development and/or who have organised sustainability initiatives are preferred.

Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. Furthermore, the ability to work independently as well as to work collaboratively is required. The ability to take initiative is required.  

Language: Fluency in English is a prerequisite (Cambridge English Proficiency, level C2, orally and written). Non-Dutch speaking applicants should be willing to learn Dutch (intermediate level).

Maastricht Sustainability Institute / School of Business and Economics (SBE)

The Maastricht Sustainability Institute (MSI) is part of the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University, and with its focus on sustainable development in research and education centrally at the interface of science, policy and society. The institute offers the Master programme Sustainability Science, Policy and Society (which attracts a large international, multidisciplinary student population and includes a Sustainable Business specialization). The institute also provides sustainability education at bachelor level. The multidisciplinary staff (ca. 40 persons) has an interdisciplinary working style and transdisciplinary interest for addressing sustainability problems.
