Job description

The Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship (DCE), part of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), is seeking an Assistant Professor (academic career track) in technology & entrepreneurial marketing. Your primary responsibility is to develop a research plan linked to entrepreneurial marketing education.

Your interest is on early technology development, entrepreneurial marketing and sales techniques for technology-based ventures. It may include topics such as a proactive orientation to customer development and demand generation thorugh digital marketing, viral & guerrilla marketing, value creation primary market research methodologies, market entry strategies and lean thinking with a bottom-up user approach.

This position is an academic career track. You are expected to: develop a clear research line in Entrepreneurial Marketing; aim for achieving societal impact; have a strong interest in technology development and technology transfer; and a strong focus on publishing research papers in peer-reviewed academic journals and actively take part in academic fora.

In the role of education, you will develop new course materials on entrepreneurial marketing and design curricula for undergraduate and graduate-level students. More specifically, you will coordinate a bachelor minor program on technology based entrepreneurship and teach marketing to engineering students and mentor and guide them in projects on business development or when they pursue their own startup.

You will be part of a team that conducts research on technology entrepreneurship and develops entrepreneurship education tailored to specific technology disciplines across the faculties at TU Delft. You will operate in an ecosystem of researchers, start-ups, local support organizations, such as YES!Delft and research labs that allow students to work on new technology development. The vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem provides great opportunities to make significant research contributions. You have a PhD in Business and Management, or related field, with a focus on technology and entrepreneurial marketing evidenced by a track record of teaching excellence and publication experience in entrepreneurship journals.

The Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship is a key player in offering entrepreneurship education for approx. 1100 students annually, at bachelor, master and PhD level across the faculties of the TU Delft. The centre has strong collaborations in both research and education across the TU Delft and beyond. The Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship currently employs 15 FTE who are active in research, education and EU projects.

Requirements

•    A PhD degree in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
•    Strong teaching skills in the field of entrepreneurship or marketing.
•    Research experience and a strong record of publications in relevant academic journals.
•    Strong commitment to teaching entrepreneurship with a focus on early venturing activities and a passion to mentor students.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Possession of UTQ degree (university teaching qualification) or willingness to obtain this degree;
•    Excellent English skills;
•    Proficiency of Dutch or willingness to acquire it;
•    Experience working in or with start-ups, entrepreneurship centers or related organizations is a plus.

Conditions of employment

This position is offered as an Academic Career Track position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE). During the Academic Career Track, we expect you to grow towards an Associate Professor position within a maximum of eight years, for which a position will be available. With other Academic Career Track colleagues, you will participate in the Academic Career Track Development programme, where you are offered ample opportunities to develop yourself in the areas of Education, Research, Societal Impact & Innovation, and Leadership & Organisation. You will regularly discuss your development and results with senior staff based on a personalized development and performance criteria agreed upon at the start of your Academic Career Track. You will start with a temporary contract that will be converted to a permanent contract no later than 12 -18 months after a positive evaluation, based on continuous confidence in your development potential and fit in the organisation.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme as part of the Academic Career Track Development programme.

TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
