Job description

Are you an enthusiastic statistician who is looking for a new project into statistical methods for modern datasets such as omics and images? Then come and join us and contribute to the development and implementation of statistical models as a postdoctoral researcher. You will work in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where you can put your ideas to the test and push your boundaries as a scientist.

We have two positions available. One position focuses on the development of novel models for multi-modal data integration and is part of a European project on neurogenerative diseases. Recently, we developed a model for integration of several omics datasets measured in cell lines using latent variable models. You will build upon this work to include omics data measured in brain tissue and non-omics datasets such as drug screens in the model. You will use the models for analysis of the consortium datasets. You will present the results in network meetings. Your output will be used to prioritise genes and drug compounds for further investigations. The project lasts 30 months.

The second position focuses on novel models for longitudinally measured brain images. The project is part of an ongoing collaboration on functional data analysis methods with the Department of Statistics of the University of Leeds (UK) and lasts 24 months. To address the high dimensionality of this data, a simple functional data model has been proposed and an estimation procedure was developed. However, it appears that the simple model fits poorly in some situations. You will therefore develop methods to assess goodness-of-fit of the model and evaluate possible extensions. You will use the models to analyse open-source images.

Neither of the two positions carries any teaching duties. Applicants from groups that are underrepresented in science are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should hold a PhD degree in statistics, have advanced programming skills and some experience in data analysis.
