Job description

As part of our growth ambitions, we seek a new colleague who is passionate about doing research at the highest level and delivering high-quality education on international business. We specifically are seeking candidates showing great research potential with a track record of published papers or strong working studies aimed at top journals, and ability to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels on international business topics.

The new hire will play a key role in strengthening our Strategic Management section and expanding its research and teaching programs. The position is embedded in a supportive international work environment that is characterized by a strong commitment towards research quality and productivity, teaching innovation, teamwork and executive education.

Your duties
  • Initiate and perform high-quality research in the field of international business, culminating in top tier publications and grant acquisitions
  • Teach and design courses at the bachelor level (e.g., the International Business Administration), master level (e.g., MSc Business Administration - International Management Specialization, and/or MBA and Executive MBA), and postgraduate level (e.g., full-time/part-time PhD programmes; executive education); supervise bachelor and master theses
  • Contribute to the management of the Department / School committees
  • Be committed to obtaining a university teaching qualification, or to posses one already.

Requirements

  • Candidates are required to have a PhD in International Business
  • Fluent in English (command of Dutch language is a plus).
  • A track record of research publications in top journals in the field of International Business or showing strong promise through high-quality working papers aimed at top journals
  • A research interest in managing MNEs and MNEs’ competitive strategies and decisions regarding location and entry modes, internationalization in the digital age, transformation processes of multinational enterprises, global CSR and sustainability, global knowledge processes, new global (digital) business models, international ecosystems, or doing business in developing and emerging markets is favored.
  • Since we place great value on high quality education, we look for candidates who are passionate teachers with high teaching evaluations.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

We offer challenging positions in an international and ambitious research group. Depending on the candidates’ merits and career stage, the positions may be filled as (tenured) assistant professor or associate professor. The initial employment contract for Assistant professors will be for a total period of 6 years, which involves research (50%) and teaching (50%). Candidates should be willing to acquire a basic qualification in teaching as demanded by Dutch universities (if they do not already have one). The position of Assistant Professor is a tenure track position with the possibility of tenure. In case of excellent performance, earlier tenure decisions are possible.
For associate professors tailored contracts will be agreed upon.

Gross monthly salaries are based on qualifications and experience and are set in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities. Additionally, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers excellent fringe benefits and various schemes and regulations to promote a good work/life balance, such as:
  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.

The Department of Management and Organization comprises a large, diverse group of micro and macro scholars who seek to combine research excellence with passion in teaching.
