The Admire project calls upon you to create a sound scientific base for peatland rewetting and communicate it to actors in the Netherlands and Belgium. Your research and teamwork will aim at identifying novel opportunities for peatland restoration that minimise trade-offs among carbon storage, biomass production, biodiversity, and water- or nutrient-related regulation ecosystem services. You will be working on the Interreg ADMIRE project and associated paludiculture projects. Your primary goal is to take a leading role in identifying opportunities for biodiversity and climate protection and their synergies in peat soils in protected areas (NL/Be). Your work will include field measurements such as those of GHG emissions, biomass carbon dynamics and soil biogeochemistry. Using the project’s vegetation and groundwater data, you will quantify management scenarios using the GEST approach to improve estimates of GHG emissions and carbon sequestration potential in rewetted peatlands. Your work will lead to scientific publications in the field of integrative peatland sciences. Within the Admire project your work will contribute to a decision support system that minimises trade-offs between ecosystem services and summarises existing knowledge on climate-benefiting peatland restoration.
You will engage with actors on the landscape scale sharing your insights and scientific publications together with your two Radboud team members within Admire.

• You are proficient in Dutch and English.
• You hold a PhD or Master's degree in ecology, biogeochemistry, biology, landscape ecology, environmental science, environmental management, hydrology agricultural sciences, forestry or an equivalent field, or will have completed such a degree before the start date.
• You are proactive, results-oriented and willing to lead, and you perform well in large teams.
• You have experience in quantifying ecosystem services including biodiversity scores, carbon budgets and nutrient balances.
• You have excellent communication skills and enjoy summarising scientific knowledge to a wider audience and societal partners.
• You are ready to conduct fieldwork supporting GHG measurements in wetland ecosystems together with your team members.
• You enjoy working with biogeochemical and GHG flux datasets, using, for example, R or Python.
• You are interested in working with interdisciplinary research teams across Europe and at Natuurplaza in Nijmegen.

• Your salary within salary scale 10 depends on your previous education and number of years of (relevant) work experience. The amounts in the scale are based on a 38-hour working week.

Working at the Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences (RIBES; formerly Institute for Water and Wetland Research) will provide you with opportunities to deepen interdisciplinary aspects of your research, investigating key ecological drivers and processes that explain the functioning of wetlands and the ecosystem services they provide. Your research will be embedded in ongoing research lines in the field of wetland ecology, wetland biogeochemistry and greenhouse gas emission monitoring, and you will collaborate with colleagues from different universities and institutes in the Netherlands and beyond.
