We are looking for a biofabrication technician with knowledge and experience in additive manufacturing techniques (extrusion-based bioprinting, melt electro-writing, and light-based 3D printing) to support our diverse regenerative medicine research.

Job description

This is a full-time biofabrication technician position. The initial contract will be for a period of one year, which could be extended upon successful assessment. As a biofabrication technician, you will be involved in various tasks, from hands-on experimental work to keeping the laboratory and facilities organized and running smoothly and supporting ongoing research projects. The position also entails developing 3D (bio)printers with the rest of the research team. You will operate various advanced manufacturing machinery, train and support researchers who want to use the facility’s equipment and ensure the facility has well-maintained biofabrication equipment.

Requirements

  • Involved in a variety of advanced bioprinting technologies aiming for applications in the field of regenerative medicine.
  • Engineering tasks to support the development of custom-made (bio)printers and automated equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain the performance of different bioprinters.
  • Report and review all required process steps in approved batch records.
  • Participate in the follow-up of protocol optimizations.
  • Organization of standard operating protocols (SOPs).
  • Quality control and maintenance of the experimental lab equipment and reagents.
  • Takes responsibility for the organization and tidiness of the laboratory.
  • Responsible for the training research staff and students in the use of the bioprinters and other shared 3D printing equipment.
  • Collaborate with researchers with diverse expertise in (stem) cell biology and regenerative medicine in collaborative projects involving the Utrecht Biofabrication Facility.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (36 - 36 hours) is € 3.772,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Department

This position is hosted at the Utrecht Biofabrication Facility, embedded within the Regenerative Medicine Center Utrecht (RMCU). Located at the Utrecht Science Park, the RMCU brings together the largest group of researchers in regenerative medicine in the Netherlands. These researchers work closely to translate scientific and technological discoveries into patient benefit. You will be appointed through the Department of Orthopedics of the UMC Utrecht, a global leader in developing and applying novel regenerative technologies, such as cell-based therapies, 3D (bio)printing, and the application of personalized 3D implants.
