Job description

The Asser Institute, based in The Hague, and affiliated with the University of Amsterdam is seeking an enthusiastic DIGITAL MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST on a full-time basis (38 hours per week).

What are you going to do?
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of using innovative digital strategies to amplify the Institute's societal impact. You will develop and implement campaigns that not only boost our online presence and engage new and diverse audiences, but that ultimately empower more individuals to contribute to a more just and peaceful world through our education.

As a true digital generalist, you'll wear many hats, including:
  • Optimising our website and social media channels to maximise their reach and engagement, attracting a wider audience to our training programmes and inspiring positive change.
  • Leading strategic digital campaigns to increase enrolment for our education, raise awareness of our work on critical global issues, and foster new external collaborations.
  • Crafting compelling content across multiple platforms (website, social media, email) to showcase the Institute's thought leadership and the real-world applications of our research.

The organisation
The Asser Institute is a research centre for international and European law, located in The Hague, with a high public and international profile. Its mission is to contribute to the development of international and European law by conducting independent fundamental research, policy-oriented research, and commissioned research, as well as by initiating and facilitating academic and expert meetings, (professional) education, and public events with a view to disseminating knowledge on international and European law.

What are you going to do?
The main tasks will include:
  • Manage and optimise our website and social media channels for maximum impact.
  • Lead strategic digital campaigns to increase enrolment, brand awareness, and external cooperation.
  • Craft compelling content across multiple platforms (website, social media, email) to engage current and new audiences.
  • Drive innovation and stay ahead of the curve in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
  • As a natural connector, you will collaborate with colleagues and external stakeholders to increase cooperation and ensure seamless communication.
  • Optimise website content for search engines (SEO, SEA, CRO) to improve organic visibility, increase traffic and conversation while improving the customer experience.
  • You are a strategic and tactical sparring partner for senior research staff and management while playing a key role in execution.
  • You will provide expert communications advice and regular social media trainings to our (senior) research staff.
  • You will collaborate with the writing and media specialist to develop and promote press releases, media kits, and other communication materials.

  • Is a skilled storyteller who can craft compelling narratives that showcase the human impact of our work.

Your experience and skills:
The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
  • Bachelor's or university degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Advertising, Communications, Public Relations, or related.
  • Proven track record in multi-channel marketing and identifying new target audiences, ideally in an academic setting.
  • Outstanding editing, writing, and reviewing skills, with a knack for storytelling.
  • Collaborative and innovative mindset to foster partnerships and bring creative solutions to communication challenges.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for continuous improvement and effective strategy assessment based on data.
  • Strong understanding of SEO & SEA principles and best practices.
  • Proficiency in English (Level C2), Dutch would be a plus.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Tech savviness, you are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Analytics, have experience with various content management systems, InDesign or Canva, video-editing and podcast production.
  • A passion for higher education and international law, and a commitment to the institution's mission.
  • Permission to work in the Netherlands.

Conditions of employment

We offer full-time employment with a probationary period of two months, preferably starting from 1 September 2024, with the prospect of a permanent employment agreement. The UFO profile Communication Advisor 2-3 applies to this position. This position is classified in scale 10/11. This means a gross monthly salary between € 3.226 and € 5.929 for full-time employment (38 hours per week), excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%).

The salary scale depends on competences and work experience. A temporary reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. Only candidates with permission to work in the Netherlands will be considered. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.
