Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague for the position of junior technician for the Stem Cell Technology Center (SCTC) and the cell culture facility, within the Genome Research section of the Genetics department. Do you want to join our team?

In this position you will work four days in the SCTC, with four technicians and a senior scientist, and one day in the cell culture facility, together with other two technicians. Among the tasks of the SCTC and the cell culture facility there are somatic cell reprogramming into iPSCs, iPSC differentiation into several cell types and genome editing by Crispr/Cas9, primary cell culture and EBV-immortalization of lymphoblasts.

In the SCTC pluripotent stem cells are made from different types of somatic cells of persons with hereditary diseases. Subsequently, these stem cells are characterized on their 'stemness' with quantitative RT-PCR and immunocytochemistry. This work is performed for studies of colleagues from various departments. Sometimes the stem cells will be differentiated to specialized cell types, such as retinal cells or neuronal cells, and these cells will also be characterized and analysed. The Cell culture facility is responsible for obtaining cell lines from different human tissues, blood and skin biopsies, for the registration and receipt of biological material, and for managing the storage of the cell lines of the department.

  • Works independently according to established cell culture protocols and regulations.
  • Determines the method, progress and results of the analyses.
  • Contribution to optimization and innovation of the technology centre.
  • Works regularly on weekends.
  • Signs and remedies equipment failures.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who recently graduated in a relevant higher professional education, for example life sciences. You have at least 5 months experience with growing eukaryotic cells. Additionally, you have knowledge of immunochemical determinations, cloning techniques and qRT-PCR: from primer design to data analysis.

You work very accurately and have a well developed analytical thinking ability. You also show initiative in the execution of activities, you are customer-oriented, flexible and stress resistant. In addition you possess the profile below:
