Job description

You will provide technical support to (PhD) students and postdocs working on diverse projects, with an emphasis on advanced characterization techniques (e.g. optical and mechanical techniques that address interfaces at the micro/nano scale). Your portfolio will entail hands-on use (e.g. service measurements), interfacing, (micro) fabrication of parts and management of instruments. You will closely collaborate with, and clearly communicate your results to a diversity of students, early-stage researchers and the permanent staff.

Requirements

  • A higher education (applied university of science) diploma in applied physics, advanced technology or nanotechnology is required.
  • Experience in software for design (like Solid Works) and interfacing (like Labview) will be considered beneficial.
  • Abilities for working independently and in close collaboration are both important. You will be working in an academic environment where critical thinking and (technical) problem solving attitude and skills are essential.
  • Good English proficiency is essential to communicate with colleagues from all over the world.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a varied position within a challenging working environment with an informal working atmosphere.
  • In principle it concerns a full-time fixed-term function, but this is open for discussion. You will initially receive a contract for 1 year, with a possibility of indefinite contract extension.
  • The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement (CAO).
  • The salary is, depending on your education and the duration and relevance of your work experience, a maximum of € 4,257 gross per month.
  • In addition, you will receive 8 % holiday allowance and an end-of-year allowance of 8.3%. De UT also offers an excellent package of secondary employment conditions.

Department

Within the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente, the research of the PCF group is engaged in understanding and controlling liquids and their interfaces from molecular to macroscopic scales. Our research connects fundamental phenomena in static and dynamic wetting, nanofluidics, microfluidic two-phase flow, colloids, functional surfaces and chemical reactivity at interfaces to practically relevant applications. In recent years, our application focus has shifted towards challenges of the energy transition and CO2 mitigation, such as photo-catalysis, mineral carbonation (olivine), biogas upgrading and advanced lubrication strategies, e.g. for electric vehicles and/or wind turbines.

High Tech and Human Touch

Join the university of technology that puts people first. Create new possibilities for yourself, your colleagues and society as a whole. Using modern technology and science to drive innovation, change and progress. That’s what it means to work at the University of Twente.
