Job description

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration is committed to high quality academic education and research. Our educational programmes include political science (Bachelor and Master), Public Administration and Organizational Science (Bachelor B&O), Public Administration (Master), Philosophy, Politics and Economics (bachelor, with the faculties of Humanities and Economics), and law and politics of international security (Master, with the Law Faculty).

We are seeking a Lecturer in Political Science (D3) to join our team of lecturers and researchers and our vibrant international student community. We are looking for a Lecturer who is enthusiastic about teaching a variety of courses in our undergraduate and graduate Political Science programs, fulfilling a mentoring role for our students, and supervising theses. This teaching will largely be of a general political science nature but - especially in thesis supervision- will also leave room for your own substantive emphases. Teaching will take place in our Bachelor of Political Science, Master of Political Science, and/or in our shared Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE).

The position is for the duration of one year, with the possibility of extension for up to two more years. The candidate must be available by February 1st, 2024.

Your duties
  • teach and coordinate various courses at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • supervise theses
  • fulfil a mentoring role for our undergraduate students
  • actively contribute to the academic community of the Department of Public Administration and Political Science

Requirements

You have a completed Master's degree in political science and/or a relevant adjacent discipline and you have a PhD. You have demonstrable affinity with - and experience in - teaching.

In addition, we are looking for a candidate that:
  • is an inspiring teacher
  • has excellent didactic skills as evidenced by good teaching evaluations
  • has proven experience with coordinating (teaching) tasks
  • has a thorough knowledge of political science
  • has knowledge of and competence in teaching research skills
  • has knowledge of various teaching methods and assessment forms
  • has an excellent command of the Dutch language
  • has a good command of the English language
  • has strong communication skills
  • can work well together in a team of co-workers
  • is based in the Netherlands and has a work permit
  • has a BKO (UTQ ) or is willing to obtain one 2

Conditions of employment

  • A temporary contract for the duration of 1 year, thereafter renewable for another 2 years if necessary
  • An appointment with a size of 0.8 FTE, including 0.1 FTE development time and 5% departmental participation
  • Salary as Docent 3 (scale 11.0, gross salary €3,974 to max. €5,439) based on the CAO Dutch University (depending on education level and work experience)
