Career Track Assistant Professorship in Economic and Business History (1.0 FTE)

The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance of the University of Groningen invites applications for Career Track Assistant Professor position in Economic and Business History.

Job description
You conduct original research and aim to publish in high-ranked international journals. The scope of your research can be broad within the field of economic and business history. You have a track record of high-quality academic research and an ability to establish an international reputation.

You have good teaching skills and are interested in developing these further. You will contribute to courses in the BSc and MSc programs offered by the Department, in particular Economic History, Business History, History of Economic Thought and possibly Finance courses. Moreover, you are involved in the supervision of bachelor and master theses.

The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance (EEF) is an active research community, performing at the highest international level in terms of research and publications. Researchers in the department are active in several research themes, including corporate finance, asset pricing, corporate governance, economic and financial history, corporate social responsibility, development finance, banking, insurance, health, ageing and pensions, econometrics, macroeconomics, behavioral and experimental economics, and industrial organization.

To qualify, you should have:
- a PhD in Economic History or a relevant field of Economics, or being close to completion
- research papers with the potential to be published in top-tier Economic or Business History journals (or published articles in these journals)
- teaching experience preferably in Economic History or Business History courses
- a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or the willingness to obtain this qualification
- experience with or a willingness to apply for external financing (e.g. at NWO)
- a commitment to working as part of a team
- strong communication skills
- an ambition to develop an international network of professional contacts

Career track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are permanent positions subject to a tenure decision after eighteen months. Based on a positive evaluation after five years, you will be promoted to Associate Professor. During the appointment as a career track assistant professor, you will have 50% research time.

In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities, we offer:

- a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 4,332 to a maximum of € 6,737 (salary scale 12)
- 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
- participation in a pension scheme for employees
- favorable tax treatment may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
