Job description

As a chemical analyst in our contaminants team, you are responsible for detecting the presence of contaminants in food and the environment. You will work with LC-(HR)MS and GC-(HR)MS equipment in our lab in Wageningen and generate data that contribute to food safety in the food chain and a healthy living environment.

What will you do?
As a chemical analyst, you will perform analyses using standardized protocols. You will also contribute to optimizing and validating analytical methods. The focus is on instrumental analyses using state-of-the-art measurement systems in the field of LC- and GC-MS/MS and HRMS. The analysis and research results will be reported to the project leader. You will be part of an analysis team responsible for the efficient execution and reporting of analyses. In this way, your team contributes to food safety in the food chain and a healthy living environment.

Your tasks and responsibilities as a chemical analyst include:
  • Performing LC- and GC-MS/MS and HRMS analyses in various projects;
  • Data analysis and reporting to the project leader;
  • Method development, improvement, and validation;
  • Preparing standard operating procedures (SOPs).

You will collaborate with several colleagues within one of the focus areas of the contaminants team, which is part of a larger team of 21 colleagues based in Wageningen.

Requirements

You are a team player with a hands-on mentality and the following core competencies: accurate, flexible, result-oriented, quality-conscious, well-organized, open-minded, and eager to learn. You are able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.

In addition, you have:
  • A completed education in analytical chemistry at higher professional education (HBO) level, or demonstrable HBO working and thinking level;
  • Preferably several years of experience working with LC-(HR)MS and/or GC-(HR)MS systems and sample preparation techniques;
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory is an advantage;
  • Preferably experience with analyzing complex mixtures such as MOSH/MOAH, or with non-target and/or suspect screening for contaminant detection;
  • Preferably experience with project-based work;
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in both Dutch and English.

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level B2.

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €2.823,- and €4.190,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 8). Additionally, a contract for less hours can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended on good performance.
