Job description

As a Research Data Steward, you will help provide the best possible support for VU researchers. This support is organised at VU University Amsterdam through the Research Data Support Network. Central services, together with faculty support teams, ensure that researchers receive the best possible support when working with research data. This includes the management, storage, and secure sharing of research data, anonymization, support for writing data management plans, and providing courses on data management and the FAIR principles. Together, we work to ensure high-quality RDM services.

You will answer questions from researchers via the RDM Support Desk, support the training coordinator with course-related tasks, improve information provision regarding research data management in the research support handbook (rdm.vu.nl), and provide feedback on data management plans drawn up by researchers.

To stay informed about current developments, you will maintain an active network within the organisation, both with researchers and with other support staff, such as the faculty data stewards. Where relevant, you will attend information sessions on new technologies and maintain contacts with colleagues at home and abroad to stay up-to-date and identify opportunities. Based on this, you will advise on potential improvements and be involved in their development.

Working at VU means working for an organization with social significance. You'll play a key role in a team that ensures researchers receive the best possible support when using research infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Broad interest in scientific research and the research process, particularly in the field of Open Science and FAIR data
  • Experience in consulting and support in the field of RDM
  • Knowledge of RDM tools such as Research Drive, DMP online, or iRODS/YODA
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent command of both English and Dutch
  • A proactive and customer-focused attitude

Conditions of employment

The salary, depending on education and experience, is a minimum of €3,708 and a maximum of €5,057 (scale 9) gross per month on a full-time basis.
