Job description

MESA+ NanoLab is heavily investing in the future: in state-of-the-art facilities, high-end equipment, and the expansion of our team. We are strengthening our position in integrated photonics, quantum technology, and more – and you can play a crucial role in this growth.

As a Facility & Equipment Engineer, you ensure that our unique research environment operates flawlessly. From maintaining and optimising installations to guiding new equipment projects, you keep the overview, coordinate contractors, and ensure that researchers and high-tech companies can work at the highest level.

Your role:

In this diverse position, you work hands-on in the cleanroom environment while also managing technical and project-based tasks. You will be responsible for:

Operational & technical management
  • Planning and coordinating regular building and installation maintenance, including managing subcontractors
  • Supervising external maintenance parties
  • Carrying out general cleanroom tasks such as welcoming guests, supporting cleanroom users, and starting up or shutting down the cleanroom

Technical troubleshooting & engineering
  • Systematically analyzing and resolving technical malfunctions
  • Initiating and coordinating projects for the replacement, improvement, and sustainability upgrades of building installations
  • Preparing and supervising the installation of new equipment in the NanoLab
  • Developing a thorough understanding of installation and maintenance requirements and performing first-line maintenance

Broader facility involvement
  • Your focus will be on the MESA+ NanoLab, but you may also provide facility support to the High Tech Factory when needed.

Requirements

You are a technical professional with a strong sense of quality and a passion for high-tech environments. You bring:
  • A BSc degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable technical field.
  • Hands-on technician experience and strong equipment maintenance skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in Dutch and English.
  • Experience in working in a cleanroom environment (or strong motivation to develop this).
  • Strong analytical abilities, a structured way of working, and high service orientation.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • A proactive, accurate, and collaborative work attitude – you are a true team player.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer you a full-time, challenging position in an inspiring and international environment. Your well-being and development — both personal and professional — are very important to us, and this includes opportunities for training and education.
  • The position is initially for one year. Near the end of this period, an evaluation will take place. If positive, the contract can be converted into a permanent position. This may differ for internal candidates, depending on their current contract.
  • The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU).
  • The salary ranges from a minimum of € 3.708,- to a maximum of € 5.057,- gross per month based on a full-time employment (scale 9). The salary depends on your education and experience.
  • Free access to the sports facilities on campus;
  • A family-friendly employer offering both paid and unpaid parental leave.
  • The University of Twente also offers an excellent package of secondary employment conditions, including a good pension scheme, holiday allowance, and an 8.3% year-end bonus. In addition, we offer a optional model for employment conditions, and with a full-time appointment you receive 328 hours of annual leave.
