Do you want to pioneer a new approach to research project management at Leiden University? Are you excited about managing complex research projects while also building new relationships with researchers and other support staff? If so, this unique role is for you.
What you will do - As Research Project Manager you are part of a new pool of dedicated project managers at LURIS. In the role you will plan, organise and manage national, international or interdisciplinary research projects, supporting researchers in different phases of the project lifecycle. Additionally, you will support the team in developing its outreach and project acquisition activities.
Along with the other project managers in the pool you will:
- Coordinate the execution of research projects in close collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
- Monitor and report progress and budget, ensuring compliance with the funding agency requirements, agreed contracts and EU policies.
- Assist with all aspects of the projects’ contractual documentation, including change requests, amendments, and the drafting of other agreements as required.
- Maintain relationships with consortium partners, funders and other key stakeholders.
- Support the development of acquisition strategies for new projects and promote the new project management pool across the university.
Along with your role in the pool, you will also be a part of the active and lively Leiden Research Support Network, the wider community of research project managers and of course the LURIS team. All in all, an interesting and exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for research support.
Where you will workLURIS creates and facilitates the network between Leiden scientists and public and private partners, with a focus on generating societal impact through research, knowledge and innovation. We support scientists at Leiden University in their ambition to further develop and develop their research. With a new pool of project managers, our aim is to help researchers to plan, organise and manage complex or interdisciplinary research projects, in particular in EU Horizon Europe projects and complex national projects, including those of the Nationaal Groeifonds.
What you bring - The Luris Research Project Management Pool is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic colleague to join our growing team. You are enterprising, service-oriented and able to establish and maintain professional relationships. You feel comfortable in the role of a coordinator and sparring partner for (a diverse group of) researchers. With your analytical mindset, you are able to quickly assess what is going on. You take ownership of your work, are driven by results, and feel confident working independently while shaping your own responsibilities. Your communication style is clear and approachable, and you are not deterred by deadlines.
In addition, you have:
- Master, or comparable experience
- Knowledge of externally funded research projects and the national/ international funding landscape, especially NWO, EU Horizon Europe or other European funding opportunities.
- Work experience in a research support role within an academic/ research environment
- Good communication skills
- A good command of both the Dutch and English language, both verbally and in writing.

We also offer:
- An employment contract for the duration of one year with a view to permanent employment. This contract falls under the CLA of Dutch Universities;
- A salary of a minimum of € 3546 and a maximum of € 6433 gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours) (scale 10-11);
- A holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP;
- Full reimbursement of public transport commuting costs for home-to-work travel;
- Flexible working hours: as a standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 leave days on the basis of a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also save for extra leave, for example by working 40 hours a week, and in this way accrue an extra 96 leave hours, or exchange 96 leave hours for a 36-hour week.
- Lots of options when it comes to secondary employment conditions; we can, for example, discuss options for a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Within our terms of employment individual choices model, you can exchange leave days and/or salary for benefits such as an advantageous sports subscription or bicycle scheme, and we also offer child-care options;
- If your work allows it, hybrid working is possible within the Netherlands;
- A home-working allowance (day and internet allowance) and attention for good workplaces. The University will also provide you with a laptop and a mobile telephone.
