Job description

Food safety starts with reliable analyses, and that is exactly where you, as a Chemical Analyst at Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR), make a direct contribution.

Together with your colleagues, you ensure that (new) contaminants in food are detected and quantified in a timely manner. In doing so, you help maintain the confidence that consumers in the Netherlands and beyond have in a safe food chain.

Within the Contaminants team, you work on chemical analyses using high-end equipment. The focus is on magnetic sector GC-HRMS, with which you analyse complex samples for various organic contaminants. You carry out these measurements, interpret the data, and translate your findings into reports for our project leaders. In addition, you work on improving analytical methods and actively contribute to quality assurance in an ISO 17025 environment.

What will you be working on?
  • Collaborating with enthusiastic and knowledgeable colleagues who are always willing to share expertise and help each other
  • Independently performing GC-HRMS analyses with a strong focus on data processing and reporting
  • Ensuring the quality and reliability of analyses within an ISO 17025-accredited environment

Your team
You will work together with analysts and project leaders within one of the work areas of the Contaminants team. In total, around 50 colleagues work within WFSR’s Contaminants cluster. The atmosphere is open, collegial and informal: we help each other, share knowledge and like to get things done.

Working with us means working in an organisation where craftsmanship, (dry) humour and collaboration come together, and where you are given the space to further develop yourself in a field that is constantly evolving.

Requirements

You have strong analytical skills, a keen sense of quality and a passion for our profession. You are eager to learn, enjoy sharing knowledge with colleagues and gain energy from working together in a team. You work with precision, think in creative solutions and always see opportunities to improve processes.

You also bring:
  • At least higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking, through training and/or experience in a relevant field
  • Experience with various separation techniques and mass spectrometry
  • Enthusiasm for contributing to a safer food chain
  • Good communication skills in English (and preferably Dutch as well).
  • Experience in a laboratory with a quality management system and/or in a project-based working environment

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level B2. In case you don’t speak Dutch, we expect the willingness to learn Dutch.

WUR welcomes applications from international candidates. However, for applicants for this specific position from outside the EU/EFTA zone, immigration restrictions may apply based on Dutch and EU immigration laws. Such candidates may be eligible for an “orientation year” in the Netherlands or a visa as a “knowledge migrant”.
