Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic HBO/MBO laboratory analyst to join the Pre-analysis group (DSU) of the Diagnostics and Crisis Organization (DCO) department.

At DSU you will receive all samples sent in for diagnostic testing. As the national veterinary reference institute, we work with a wide variety of samples, such as those for animal export, suspected notifiable diseases, disease monitoring, scientific projects, and research.

Your tasks will include:
  • registering samples in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS);
  • preparing samples for transport to other laboratories within WBVR;
  • performing sample preparation, such as processing organ material, swabs, and blood samples;
  • working partially in the High Containment Unit when preparing specific samples.

Quality is very important in this role, and you will work in a close team of about 6–8 colleagues.

About the Department
The laboratories of the DCO department are responsible for diagnostics related to monitoring and suspected outbreaks of notifiable viral and bacterial animal diseases, as well as export diagnostics.

Quality is always our priority. Many of our tests are accredited according to ISO17025. Besides diagnostics, we also develop, implement, and validate new tests. These activities are carried out by a motivated and skilled team of laboratory analysts.

Requirements

For this position, it is important that you:
  • are focused on quality;
  • are proactive and flexible;
  • work well in a team;
  • can handle stress during busy periods or outbreaks of animal diseases;
  • are willing to work outside office hours when needed during disease outbreaks;
  • are willing to work standby shifts and evening/weekend shifts when required;
  • are flexible to support other laboratories if necessary;
  • speak and understand Dutch;
  • are customer-focused and professional.

The work will take place in buildings where an additional quarantine rule applies after you leave (based on EU regulations). This means that it is not allowed to keep cloven-hoofed animals (such as cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats).
For 72 hours after working in these facilities, you are also not allowed to have contact with these animals or visit poultry production farms.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
  • there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed year-end bonus of 8,3%;
  • excellent pension scheme.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €2.824,- and €3.567,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 6). . As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance. Of course, we are happy to have a conversation with you if you have any questions about this.
