(Junior) Datamanager

Join our Division of Pharmacoepidemiology & Clinical Pharmacology, part of the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences. We study the efficacy, safety and use of medicines in groups of patients using large data sets on drug use, clinical outcomes and patient characteristics. You manage the data sets, support researchers and students, and help maintain strong research quality and documentation.

Your job
As a (Junior) Datamanager, you will join our data management team, which supports over 75 researchers in our research group, as well as a large group of students who work with a variety of datasets. As part of this team you facilitate, support and guide them in managing and using data. Your range of tasks is varied and can to some extent be adapted to your qualifications and interests. The emphasis will be on the following activities:

• Operational data management: managing, archiving and issuing data for research and education.
• Process and quality management: co-developing, implementing, and monitoring our quality system and its associated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as advising on and implementing strategies to ensure research data is managed according to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
• Support for researchers and students: supporting data management, data processing, and analysis, and providing instructions on the use of software packages such as R or SAS.
• Information management: managing and structuring research documentation and streamlining internal information flows.
• Advice and support: providing advice and support on data management issues, privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR), and ethical considerations, for example, when writing new research proposals.

You bring the following qualifications:

• a completed degree from a University of Applied Sciences (HBO), or a research university (WO) at Bachelor’s or Master’s level;
• demonstrable affinity with (drug or healthcare) research;
• relevant experience in working with large (patient) datasets and with database and statistical software packages (such as SAS, R, or Stata), or the willingness to learn this quickly;
• you have an eye for process improvement and take initiative to increase efficiency; experience with project-based work and process management is a plus;
• effective communication skills and an excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.

• an employment contract for 12 months with the prospect of a permanent employment contract;
• a gross monthly salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience – between €3,057 and €4,484 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 7 or 8 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
• 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
• a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

The Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology consists of a multidisciplinary team of internationally oriented researchers. The mission of the division is to improve the safe and effective use of medicines by patients and society. Our research contributes to a better understanding of the variability in medicines’ use and patient outcomes, both from a clinical, policy, and methodological perspective. Innovative observational pharmacoepidemiologic methods are applied and evaluated to obtain reliable information on the benefits and harms of medicines after marketing in real life. Methodological innovations are inspired by relevant research questions in clinical practice, pharmaceutical policy, and regulation. The beneficial and adverse effects of pharmacotherapy are studied in outpatient as well as in hospital settings, linking both exposure and outcome data from various sources (clinical, pharmacy, laboratory, patient). Real-world problems in clinical practice are investigated and thereby immediately relevant to patients and health care providers.
