Job description

The TU/e Built Environment chair of Smart Architectural Technologies is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to study smart living solutions and collaborate in different research projects with external stakeholders.

Information
The chair of Smart Architectural Technologies at TU/e Built Environment seeks a postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary team on the nationally funded projects. These projects are dedicated to improving the overall health and well-being of older individuals in long-term care settings, with a focus on resilience, vulnerability management, and technology acceptance. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative healthcare decision-making frameworks, making a direct impact on policy and shaping the future of built environments for healthcare.

The selected candidate will play an active role in gathering data and analyzing the interaction dynamics within long-term care facilities, assessing how living and organizational environments affect health, care provision, and social contact. This includes exploring the effectiveness of technological interventions for future long-term care facilities. Collaboration with consortium partners, including researchers from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, care institutions, and housing cooperatives, is a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

  • Motivated researcher, with a PhD in social sciences, architecture, healthcare management, or a related discipline, with a focus on smart environments, long-term care, or healthcare decision-making.
  • Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including proficiency in conducting interviews, surveys, and statistical analysis.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams and to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • A strong track record of publications in relevant fields (for PhD holders) or demonstrable research experience (for MSc holders).
  • A team player who enjoys coaching PhD and Master's students and working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team.
  • A proven ability to manage complex projects to completion on schedule.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English, good communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Dutch, essential for conducting local fieldwork and engaging with international research communities.

Desirable skills

Experience with fieldwork in long-term care settings and an empathetic approach to engaging with older individuals and caregivers. Knowledge of smart architectural technologies and their application in improving care and living conditions for long-term care populations. Ability to critically analyze and evaluate building functionality and usability, with a focus on healthcare delivery and resident interactions.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:
  • Full-time employment for 1 year.
  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 10 (min. € 4,241 max. € 5,538).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • High-quality training programs on general skills, didactics and topics related to research and valorization.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus children's day care and sports facilities.
  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • A TU/e Postdoc Association that helps you to build a stronger and broader academic and personal network, and offers tailored support, training and workshops.
  • A Staff Immigration Team is available for international candidates, as are a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) and a compensation for moving expenses.
