Are you a (senior) tax manager or a senior financial professional with demonstrable affinity for tax-related matters? And would you like to use your knowledge and experience to work with a team of independent professionals on further strengthening WUR’s fiscal and financial operations?
As a (senior) tax manager, you act as a sparring partner for WUR’s management and as the organisation’s go‑to expert on tax matters. You work on a wide range of tax issues, with a primary focus on VAT and corporate income tax, but also on payroll tax and potentially other tax domains. In particular, VAT involves complex and challenging questions regarding the distinction between WUR’s public tasks and its commercial research activities. You have experience with tax issues in these areas and a strong sense of how to navigate relationships within a complex organisation. You operate from a central position within the financial domain, work independently, and engage external advisors when needed for complex or high‑impact matters.
Beyond the technical aspects of your work, you value contributing directly to an organisation committed to building a better society. This is a challenging role in a complex environment, where your work is essential for properly designing tax processes and ensuring accurate and timely handling of tax matters — and therefore for good governance. Do you recognise yourself in this? Then we are looking for you as our new (senior) tax manager.
As a (senior) tax manager, your responsibilities include: - Acting as the tax sparring partner for colleagues across WUR and supporting the organisation as its tax expert, primarily in VAT and corporate income tax, and secondarily in payroll tax, energy tax, and transfer tax.
- Advising management and controllers on the design of tax components within their operations. You regularly inform the Director of Finance & Control about tax risks.
- Proactively identifying advisory opportunities and process innovations.
- Coordinating the accurate and timely submission of VAT and corporate income tax returns.
- Maintaining contact with the Dutch Tax Authorities on behalf of WUR and conducting periodic tax consultations with them.
- Identifying topics that require internal or external escalation and maintaining relationships with external tax advisors.
- Handling tax correspondence, including objections, with the Tax Authorities.
Your RoleWe are looking for a successor to our current tax manager, who is retiring. You will join the corporate team Financial Accounting & Internal Control (FAIC). The team supports WUR in achieving its goals by designing and managing financial processes effectively. The team consists of eight financial professionals, including the manager. Four colleagues specialise in second‑line project control, and the team also includes an internal auditor, the current tax controller/tax specialist, and a support staff member.
