Job description

As collaborative grants advisor, you report to the Director of Grants at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). You’re responsible for early identification of collaborative grant opportunities for our researchers working in Business and Management, primarily at a national and European level. This also means you will become a member of the Grants Office at RSM.

Internally, your primary objective is to scout for research or project ideas and to identify funding opportunities that align with these. In addition, you provide guidance to researchers throughout the grant application process. Thanks to your organisational skills, you set up a support structure for researchers which helps them to write high-quality proposals and build competitive consortia. You enable the creation of a culture among researchers that stimulates them to apply for grants, fosters their engagement and creates lasting partnerships with impact.

Externally, you build and maintain a network with external partners from public and private institutes. You take on the role of point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. You also work in close collaboration with the RSM Project Desk (post-award grant support) and colleagues from Business & Project Control (BPC).

Job description
  • Scout for research project ideas within RSM;
  • Identify collaborative research grant opportunities for RSM faculty awarded by NWO and other national and European (Horizon Europe, Erasmus+) research funders;
  • Support researchers applying for collaborative research grants throughout the application process, including providing critical feedback on proposals and ensuring application requirements are met in a timely manner;
  • Act as first point of contact for RSM researchers who want to apply for a collaborative grant;
  • Organise internal alignment with relevant research grant processes such as project control and business development;
  • Develop strong collaborations with grant advisors working within other EUR schools to identify university-level funding opportunities for RSM faculty;
  • Organise funding information sessions, training sessions and workshops about collaborative research grants – specifically, in the field of Social Sciences; and
  • Proactively engage with external contacts: partner institutes, societal stakeholders and relevant agencies, to anticipate new developments and help build consortia.

Requirements

Required qualifications:
  • Completed education on an academic level, preferably with a doctorate in Social Sciences;
  • Several years (3+) of relevant work experience in supporting and advising researchers in the application of collaborative research grants – knowledge of NWO and Horizon programmes is key;
  • Experience in acquiring grants is preferable; and
  • Knowledge of the procedures relating to grants awarded by funding schemes.

Required competences:
  • Open personality, capacity to collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Organisation sensitive, a good listener, customer and service orientated;
  • An entrepreneurial, hands-on and open attitude;
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills;
  • Proactive, stress-resistant, ability to deliver under pressure; and
  • Excellent verbal, written command of English (CEFR level C1). Dutch language skills are preferable.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary contract for 8.5 months (0.8-1.0 FTE, full-time appointment is 38 hours). Contract extension is not possible.

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 4,728 gross per month and up to a maximum of € 6,433 gross per month (scale 11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

RSM has introduced blended working; employees are equipped with a laptop and accessories which they can use while working from home. In the shared office workplaces, you can use a docking station, mouse, and an external monitor. Attendance of the respective (online) meetings and the team meetings is required; other than that, working days, hours and locations in this role are flexible.
