Application procedure

We invite you to submit a complete application by using the apply button. The application should include a:
  • Cover letter in which you describe your motivation and qualifications for the position.
  • Curriculum vitae, including:
    • the starting and end dates of your BSc study and of your MSc study
    • a list of your publications
    • a brief description of your MSc thesis project
    • contact information of three references. Kindly note that we may reach out to references at any stage of the recruitment process. We recommend notifying your references upon submitting your application.
  • Evidence of excellence: the Official Grade Lists of your BSc and MSc education, listing all your courses taken and grades obtained. These grades must be excellent in order to apply for this excellence programme.
  • Clearly indicate in your application in which of the 11 PhD positions you are interested. You can select multiple positions by ticking the corresponding boxes of the related projects.
  • A separate list of your experience with continuum and computational mechanics in general and the following skills in particular (only report the skills that are relevant for the PhD positions you are applying):
    • o continuum mechanics for large deformations
    • o numerical mechanics and analysis (FEM simulations, meshing, etc.)
    • o programming skills (Matlab/Python coding, user-defined FE routines, …),
    • o theoretical (mechanical) analyses,
    • o microstructure-based simulations (using experimental microstructures)
    • o materials and microstructure characterization,
    • o microscopy and metallurgy,
    • o (micro-)mechanical testing, in-situ testing and digital image correlation,
    • o numerical analysis of experimental data.
