Job description

Welcome to Maastricht University!
The world is changing fast, and we are changing with it. At Maastricht University, your work makes a real difference – whether you are exploring the future through research, inspiring students in the classroom, or helping to shape everything that makes our education and research possible.

Lecturer in Economics – Maastricht School of Management (MSM)
  • Our goal: deliver high-quality education in economics within our Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master in Management (MM) programmes.
  • Your colleagues: a dedicated and internationally oriented academic team that collaborates closely to deliver high-quality MBA and executive education programmes with a strong focus on practical impact and global relevance.

In this role, you contribute to high-quality education within the MBA and Master in Management (MM) programmes. You combine academic expertise with practical relevance and help professionals and graduate students translate economic insights into managerial practice.

You design and deliver engaging teaching that connects theory to real-world challenges. You play an active role in curriculum development and contribute to strengthening the educational profile of the programmes. In addition, you support students in their academic and professional development.

What you will do

You will contribute to education and programme development in the following ways:
  • Design and continuously update course materials to reflect current industry developments and academic insights.
  • Use diverse instructional methods—such as case studies and applied learning—to enhance engagement and practical understanding.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate students, including guidance on master’s theses and applied projects.
  • Teach additional courses within the MBA/MM curriculum where needed.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and programme evaluation within the MBA and MM programmes.
  • Participate actively in departmental and university committees.
  • Contribute as a consultant to projects and initiatives within MSM.

What you bring

It’s not about ticking boxes—it’s about who you are and what you bring to our educational community. Do you recognise yourself in the following?
  • Academically grounded – You hold a PhD (or equivalent degree) in Economics, preferably in managerial or industrial economics.
  • Experienced educator – You have demonstrated excellence in graduate-level teaching, ideally within MBA and/or MM programmes.
  • Innovative in course development – You are able to design and deliver engaging, practice-oriented economics courses that connect theory with real-world application.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator – You bring excellent interpersonal and communication skills and work effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Flexible in teaching formats – You are comfortable working with online and hybrid teaching formats.
  • Connected to practice – You bring industry experience in economics or maintain strong links to professional practice.
  • Globally oriented – You are willing to travel to our international partners when required.

The number of teaching hours depends on the range of courses you are able to teach. We are primarily looking for experienced Lecturers in Economics. If you also have teaching experience in related fields such as Strategy or Digital Transformation, we warmly encourage you to apply.

  • A 12-month contract with a scope of 0.2-0.6 FTE.
  • A gross monthly salary between 3.546,- and € 7.297 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
  • Flexible working hours, a home office allowance, and the option to work from home.
  • Freedom and space to shape your work independently and develop your ideas.
  • A close-knit community of colleagues to collaborate and grow with.
  • A solid pension plan via ABP, company fitness schemes, and access to various university sports facilities.
  • An inspiring work environment in the heart of Europe.
