Job Description
The Department of Organization, Strategy, & Entrepreneurship (OSE) at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Maastricht University offers a 4-year fully funded PhD position in the area of Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation, for a student with a (Research) Master of Science degree or equivalent, starting in September 2024.

Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this PhD project aims at examining the role and dynamics of different actors within social innovation ecosystems. It is our ambition to explore how these diverse actors use and apply their missions and operational strategies to reconcile stakeholder interests, mitigate resource constraints, to pursue innovative solutions to social issues within their ecosystem. Particular attention will be paid to the context of emerging markets, where the interplay between resource constraints and social complexity presents unique opportunities for theoretical insights on this topic.

You will have the opportunity to carry out research within the OSE department, in the context of the topic described above, and within the PhD program of the Graduate School of Business and Economics (GSBE). As such, you will contribute to the development and outreach of our ongoing research. Candidates are expected to enter the doctoral program of GSBE and to deliver a doctoral dissertation within three to four years, depending on having finished a 2-year research master's or a 1-year master's in a relevant field.

Requirements
You hold a 1-year master’s degree or a 2-year research master in the field of Business and/or Social Sciences (or related fields) and are able to show good to excellent (‘honours’-level) results in prior studies.

Next to this, you:
  • Have a strong affinity for qualitative research; you are interested in advancing your quantitative skills;
  • Are fluent in both spoken and written English
  • Share our ambition to conduct high-quality research with scientific and practical/societal impact. You have a background, knowledge or familiar with the literature (or interested in) in field of (social) entrepreneurship, ecosystems, social innovation, family firms, and broader management, business administration.

What we offer
As Ph.D. candidate in the area of Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Ecosystems at School of Business and Economics, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale P according to UFO profile PhD, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €2770,00 and €3539,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 18 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon a positive evaluation, an extension of 2,5 years will follow.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
