Job description

The statistics group at the University of Twente (UT, in the Netherlands) has a vacancy for a Ph.D. student to work on statistical theory for deep neural networks. These networks are now state of the art for many complex tasks such as object detection on images, speech recognition and game playing. Despite these successes, deep networks are poorly understood. A statistical theory that explains the successes and points to possible limitations is highly needed. You will work on theoretical questions related to statistical risk bounds for deep neural networks.
