Department

Maastricht University's Institute for Education Innovation

EDLAB is Maastricht University’s Institute for Education Innovation. The Institute is based on three pillars and aims to meet the ever-increasing demand of students and staff to develop and effectively implement innovative concepts in education. Pillar 1 ‘Education Innovation’ coordinates cross-faculty projects and pilots, promotes experimentation and facilitates implementation of new education concepts. Pillar 2 ‘Excellence Education’ centrally coordinates Maastricht University’s excellence programmes PREMIUM, MaRBLe and Honours+. Pillar 3 ‘Educational Services’ supports initiatives and programmes that foster staff development and teacher professionalization.

To promote the quality of education, UM has developed a range of excellence programmes for ambitious, motivated, high-performing students. At EDLAB we further develop, implement, and centrally coordinate these programmes. More specifically, we aim to facilitate a challenging, (interdisciplinary) learning environment in which students of demonstrated quality are offered extracurricular opportunities. Accordingly, they are provided with a chance to develop their talents, increase their knowledge, strengthen their resume, and prepare for the job market.

PREMIUM is UM’s Honours programme for high-performing and motivated master’s students. With a focus on project-based working and teamwork, as well as personal (professional) development, PREMIUM bridges the gap between study and career.

Honours+ is UM’s excellence programme for second year bachelor students participating in the Faculty Honours Programmes. With a focus on developing academic skills in an interdisciplinary environment, as well as creating a UM honours community, Honours+ aims to provide a common core for all Honours students.

The Maastricht Research-Based Learning excellence programme (MaRBLe) allows third year bachelor’s students at all UM faculties to gain hands-on experience with academic research. Under the guidance of an experienced UM researcher students set up and conduct their own scientific study.
