You will become part of an international team performing basic and translational research aiming to improve head and neck cancer immunotherapy. Your project will focus on the translational research being part of state-of-the-art clinical intervention trials conducted in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital by analyzing patient tumor samples and peripheral blood. Occasionally you might be involved in some preclinical studies. The daily work includes: dedicated cell culture, ex vivo fresh tumor assays, PBMC isolation and functional assays, multi-color flow cytometry.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Master student with a strong background in immunology. The candidate should be an MD, or have a master (MSc) degree in biology or biomedical sciences at University level. Experience with cell culture and flow cytometry is mandatory. The candidate will have a great interest to understand the biological and clinical questions accompanying this type of translational research. Excellent communication skills and team spirit, and a capacity to work in autonomy are essential. All analyses and results will be intensively discussed with co-investigators. Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Fixed-term contract: 4 jaar.

The PhD student will be employed by the research groups of CL Zuur, Head and Neck Surgeon and PhD, and DS Thommen, Junior Group Leader Tumor immunology, and will work under direct supervision of Dr. Xiaohang Qiao. We offer a contract for 4 years, with a possibility for extension to 5 years. The gross salary per month will range from € 2.005,- to € 3.264,- according to FWG-function group 45 or 50. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
