Your career opportunityRadboud university medical center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands, is a leading academic center for patient care, education and research, with the mission 'to have a significant impact on healthcare'. We are looking for a candidate who qualifies for a
Hypatia Tenure Track Grant of the Radboud university medical center. This unique and highly sought after research position offers a special opportunity to establish an independent research group.
At the Department for
Health Evidence , Radboudumc, there are two research lines that offer excellent opportunities for researchers with expertise in the area of modeling and simulation:
[1] Personalized risk-based cancer screening and follow-upThe research group on Cancer Screening and Follow up focuses on the evaluation of the long-term benefits and harms of screening for (breast) cancer. In particular, the group studies whether moving from the current 'one-size-fits-all' screening policies to more individualised screening approaches can help optimise the (cost-)effectiveness of breast cancer screening. A similar risk-based approach is being investigated in secondary screening, i.e. follow-up tests in cancer survivors for the early detection of recurrences.
[2] Health care models as a means to provide decision makers with quantitative informationThe research group Healthcare Technology Assessment (HTA) is involved in research that supports decision making on prioritization of care at different levels such as society, third party payers and hospitals. For this research, different health care models are used. A special interest is in general micro simulation models that with appropriate modifications can address a range of problems. For example an HIV model that is used to answer a variety of questions at multiple moments in time. These questions may involve the (cost)-effectiveness of innovative treatment modalities, treatment modifications and (personalized) prevention and screening strategies.
Your functionWe are looking for an expert in the building and application of mathematical (disease) modelling and micro-simulation methods, such as Markov models, discrete event simulation, or system Dynamics, to study the effectiveness and efficiency of risk-based cancer screening and follow up strategies, innovative treatment modalities and (personalized) prevention and screening strategies beyond the cancer domain. Tailoring screening or follow up regimens to persons at varying levels of risk may be addressed in several ways: changing age limits for starting and stopping ages, changing screening or test intervals, and adding new techniques to current screening tests. All of these will need to be assessed separately and in combination, taking advantage of high-quality empirical data, to find the optimal screening or follow up strategy with the best benefit-harm ratios and cost-effectiveness.
