The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) is a leading international research infrastructure in the field of population and family dynamics. It was established in 2001 and has since fielded a longitudinal survey on demographic change and family formation in more than twenty countries across the developed world. The data has resulted in more than 1,800 publications and is used by over 4,000 users in 43 countries. We are currently recruiting in our GGP team at NIDI in connection with the new round of data collection starting in 2020-21.
The Fieldwork and Data officer will work closely with our international GGP partners and country teams for the whole fieldwork process including the early discussion with countries all the way to the production of the final data file. There are two positions.
The first position will involve survey coordination work and collaboration with national teams in the implementation of our survey. It requires excellent communication skills, especially the ability to explain technical issues to various country stakeholders. The position also involves leadership skills, the ability to implement mitigation strategies if needed, and the ability to work in a team environment. It is targeted at somebody at the post-doc level with a solid quantitative social science background (or related field).
The other position will also be part of our survey team and will involve working more closely with the technical side of our fieldwork operation system. It is targeted at somebody with a master or PhD degree and will involve working with Blaise and related tools. It is targeted at somebody with relevant experience in the field of survey methodology.
The two positions do not involve a research component in terms of academic trajectory, but does include a requirement to follow developments in the survey methodology field, and may involve joint publications with the country teams or other GGP team members.
We are looking for candidates with the following profiles:
The positions will start 1st September 2020 or shortly after. The appointment will be for an initial period of 12 months, including a 2-month probation period. Subject to funding and performance the appointment may be extended for a longer period up to a maximum of four years in total.
Remuneration will be in the rang of salary scales 9 to 11 depending on the academic degree and prior experience of the applicant. Benefits include pension contribution, annual holiday premium of 8% and an end-of-year premium of 8.3%. Non-Dutch nationals may be eligible for a substantial tax break (30% ruling).
The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI-KNAW) is an Academy research institute. NIDI conducts research on population issues and informs policymakers and society about the results of demographic research. By concentrating researchers from different disciplines in a single institute, NIDI has become one of the most important demographic research centres in Europe.
The staff of the institute consists of about 50 employees, mostly researchers. In the Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) is a global research infrastructure which collects, documents, and archives data on population and family dynamics.
