Job description

In this key role in a brand new team at Erasmus University Rotterdam, you will plan and execute the University's fundraising campaigns, soliciting low to mid-level donations from alumni and other constituents through digital campaigns, direct mail as appropriate and other initiatives such as crowdfunding and Giving Days.

Your aim will be to fundraise to support the University's priorities: student experience, education, and research.

Your main tasks
In this role, you will be expected to:
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and execute the University's programme of digital fundraising campaigns to secure philanthropic support from alumni and other stakeholders. This will be mainly through communication campaigns.
  • Help to establish a culture of philanthropy at the Erasmus University with the help of strong internal relationship management.
  • Contribute to the planning, development and implementation of digital fundraising campaigns which align with the strategic mission of the Erasmus University Rotterdam leading to regular and legacy giving.
  • Work with key colleagues to leverage existing engagement opportunities, events, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings to secure annual gifts and ensure a stewardship experience that builds a cultivation pipeline of future major gifts.
  • Works with key partners such as the Erasmus Trustfonds, academic faculties and alumni relations colleagues to identify and develop campaigns. You can integrate volunteering in your cultivations strategies as appropriate.
  • Ensure quality control when monitoring various marketing channels by developing a targeted strategy for solicitation and marketing materials as well as campaign appeals.
  • Ensure that individual prospects are acknowledged in a timely, personalized, and expert manner. You can research and prepare stewardship reports for donors making expendable gifts, and co-ordinate stewardship efforts with alumni donor relations colleagues.
  • Create reports required to track and analyse stewardship activity including appeal results; donor movement through giving levels; donor retention; and fundraising projections.

Requirements

  1. A minimum of a university degree in a related field
  1. Two to five years of professional work experience in non-profit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales or similar professional work experience
  1. Language skills: Dutch (fluent, minimum C1) and English (minimum B2)
  1. Knowledge of fundraising, direct marketing, and relationship management
  1. Experience in soliciting and closing gifts of € 2,500 or more

  1. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact
  1. Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of a university

  1. Must be flexible and adaptable to new programmes in an emerging and changing environment

Conditions of employment

This is an interesting full-time position in a new and ambitious team which aims to connect the alumni community of Erasmus University, engage them in a meaningful way and develop mutually beneficial relationships between alumni, supporters, faculties and the whole university. It's a unique chance to help develop an impactful fundraising strategy for the university, and to help to build a strong network of alumni and supporters prepared to give back to the university. The start date is the 1st of April.

The conditions of employment correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 2,790 up to a maximum of € 4,402 gross per month (scale 10 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

The role includes training and development in fundraising and alumni engagement skills delivered by colleagues, and via other professional training bodies such as CASE (Council for Advancement & Support of Education).

CMC is responsible for the brand image of the school and ensuring it is communicated consistently across the whole programme portfolio. The department offers a number of services that aim to assist and guide programmes and academic departments with their marketing and communication efforts.
