Groundbreaking research on the clinical introduction of online adaptive radiotherapy (ART) using a novel state-of-the-art treatment machine and artificial intelligence (AI)!

Job description

To deal with the variable bladder filling during radiotherapy you will be working on the clinical introduction of online adaptive radiotherapy (ART) procedures. Using a novel state of the art treatment machine (Ethos, Varian) CT images will be acquired for each treatment fraction to monitor the daily varying anatomy. Using artificial intelligence (AI) the bladder and the surrounding organs will be segmented. Subsequently, a treatment plan will be designed to ensure the optimal tumor dose while the healthy tissue is spared. You are going to be involved in the clinical introduction, evaluation and improvement of the procedure, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team (medical doctors, radiation therapists, medical physicists) and the manufacturer. Next to the primary research, you will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of techniques employed in our radiotherapy clinic.

Employer

VU University Medical Center (VUmc)

The Academic Medical Center (AMC) and the VU University Medical Center (VUmc) today joined forces in an administrative merger. The chairmen of both Boards of Directors signed the merger into force this afternoon. The signing ceremony took place in downtown Amsterdam, in a fitting location overflowing with Dutch medical history: the 17th century Anatomy Theater in a traditional weighing house called De Waag.

Following an intensive multi-year planning process, the two Amsterdam academic hospitals are working together as of this moment under a collective name: Amsterdam UMC. This enables both Amsterdam university medical centers to further develop their core business together: complex patient care, scientific research, and education & training. Amsterdam UMC kickstarts a gradual process of continuous integration. Initially, this will be most visible in two sectors: patient care and scientific research.
