Job description

You will teach courses on a variety of topics, with a special focus on corporate and marketing communication, document design and research methods (qualitative and/or quantitative). You will supervise both graduate and undergraduate students. Your research will address the design, evaluation, and optimisation of internal and external communication of organisations, and preferably mesh with the UG research focus areas Sustainable Society and Healthy Ageing.

You will develop new ideas for research and education. You will work with colleagues from within CIS and from other departments in the faculty. You are keen to pursue opportunities to acquire research funding.

We offer you a full-time position with 60% of your time for teaching (including administration). The 40% research time will be used to develop your own research line within Discourse and Communication.

Requirements

● you have a PhD based on research in a relevant domain (e.g., Communication and Information Studies, Communication Studies, Social Psychology)
● you are an excellent researcher as evidenced by a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals
● you have teaching experience and relevant teaching qualifications (such as BKO-Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs / University Teaching Qualification) or are willing to obtain this qualification
● you like to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team
● you have the ability to communicate and teach in English (CEFR C1 level for reading, listening, writing, speaking)
● knowledge of Dutch is not an entry requirement, but a CEFR B2 level for reading and listening, and CEFR B1 level for writing and speaking are part of the conditions for tenure.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 60 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 3.746, - (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 5.826, - (salary scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
• an 8.3% year-end bonus
• participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. We offer 232 holiday hours per calendar year for full-time employment. The faculty will facilitate you with obtaining the requested qualifications for teaching and the Dutch language within two years
• anappointment on a temporary basis for 5 years with the outlook on a permanent contract if you meet the criteria.

Communication and Information Studies
At Communication and Information Studies (CIS), we offer an international bachelor’s programme and a master’s programme with various tracks. We deliver academically trained communication professionals who can apply scientific insights in a diversity of professional contexts. In our research, we use a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods to conduct both fundamental and applied research on language and communication, with a special focus on ‘document design’ (design, analysis, and evaluation of written, spoken and multimodal communication). This research is often situated in a societally relevant context and contributes strongly to the UG’s research themes Healthy Ageing and Sustainable Society.
